program you use for backup?

Hello, using a Retrospect Express program (~4 yrs old) that came with a maxtor drive to back up from Windows XP, but it's cumbersome, and won't upload to Vista on another computer. The Windows XP backup system is either missing or hidden, haven't heard great things about it either.
What program do you use to back up your files to an external hard drive? thanks!

At the end of every session, the current version of the song file is "bundled" and written to a CD or DVD.

This is checked, by reopening the file from the disc.

It's been a flawless system for us, for many, many years.
