I'm about to go on a camping trip of three or four days and want to take my Fender GDP100 (parlor guitar) along. Now, it's a cheap, laminate guitar and I got it for a beater and camping trips and such but I really don't want to mess it up too bad and so I've got a question about the effect of humidity on a laminate guitar.
Where I'll be is forecasting scattered thunderstorms (40%) every day I'll be there (South Louisiana). I'll be in a tent and keeping the guitar in a gig bag when not in use. I suppose, if necessary, I could even put the gig bag inside of a large leaf bag and seal it with twist ties. Say it rains, maybe even rains a lot. Do y'all think it'll be okay? Or would that just be too much humidity? If the temp's not too bad (they're saying high of 90) I could even keep in in my vehicle if that would help. Of course I'm hoping it doesn't rain.

Thanks,
Wayne

I'd use it. I wouldn't keep it in the car tho. the heat will get too intense. Just keep it dry and you should be fine.

Definitely avoid intense heat, but I wouldn't worry too much about a couple of days of humidity, especially with laminated woods. If it's a beater, go beat on it in the woods! Better 'n havin' no music along!

I wouldn't worry at all. I used to camp with a Gibson H'bird, never a problem in Michigan in the summer. In New Mexico I did the same, just made sure to keep a humidifier in it because the RH was so low there in the summer. I tent camped always, but did keep it in a hard case. No problems thru three days of rain, etc., just don't let it sit out in it! And +1 on hot cars.

I still take a Gibson, even sometimes a '50s model, with me to a hunting cabin in Canada. Never a problem with a bit of humidity, it's the dryness I watch for.

You got that guitar to camp & play, enjoy it.

Thanks, guys! I'd almost have to cancel the trip if I couldn't take it.

Don't sit too close to the campfire with it! :D
Seriously, sitting too close with a guitar directly facing a good size fire can dry one out in a hurry. Be safe and have fun!
