Please forgive my ignorance, but is the bulb on an amp something you can just pull out and replace, or do you have to take the chassis out? The bulb on one of my amps just burned out, and it would be really nice if I didn't have to take the amp apart just to replace it. And the amp is still fully functional.
Thanks in advance, and again, sorry for my ignorance! :)

What amp is it?Some amps use removeable bulbs and others use 120v neon lamps that need to be unsoldered from the inside. If it's a fender amp, most have jewel lamps that let you unscrew the jewel and replace the bulb. But Blues Jr's and Pro Jr's use lamps that require removing the back panel to replace.

It's a Holland.....I'm not sure if that helps. I unscrewed the jewel cap, but I can't tell if the bulb comes out or not.

push in on the bulb gently and twist it a little with your fingertip. Should pop right out if it's the jewel style.

...and they twist to the left to come out. You may have to take a pair of pliers and gently grab the bulb to pull it out.

Pliars? Yikes! Oh well, if it's dead I guess it doesn't matter.
Here's a tip for bulbs like this you can't get your fingers around, slip a piece of flexible rubber hose around it. Try some vacuum tubing or gas line, etc. from the local auto parts store. It's best if the ID is just a tad smaller than the bulb, push it on, push & twist and remove. It works going back in too.

yeah the little 6.3 v bulbs can sometimes be hard to get a hold of and Hasserl's advice will work really well. Remember that to remove the bulb you have to push, turn to the left *then* lift out and reverse the process to put the new one back in. You may find replacement bulbs at Radio Shack (not at any of mine anymore...useless!!!, but that's another story), but they are available at the usual suspects (www.tubesandmore.com, www.hoffmanamps.com, mojotone.com, etc.).

Wow, that was easy. Pushed in and turned to the left, and it popped right out. I feel like an idiot.
Thanks, everyone, for the help. What would people like me do without the gear page? Oh. Ya. I'd probably be sitting on the floor with my amp chassis completely out of the cabinet, with screws and parts strewn all around me, and then find the bulb and realize it just screws out. So, all that to say, seriously, thanks everyone.

That's why I said gently. You don't want to crush the damn thing! :D

Good idea. I can't do that on my Dual Recto though, because the tubing wall is too thick to get into the lamp socket.
fenders use a #47 bulb. You could use a #44 if you wanter it to be brighter. 6.3v

I replaced mine with a 12V lamp. Its not as bright but it will probably last profoundly longer than the 6.3V one.
