The first firepod I had, both firewire ports died on me within a month. Took it back and got a new one.
So, about 6 months later the first firewire port died on the new one and I went to turn it on today to update my Axe Fx and guess what, port 2 is now dead too.
I barely use this thing and baby the ports because of what has happened. I don't even move the thing. What the heck is up with presonus?
I wish I would have spent my $600 on something worth something. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what they can do, but they will probably want to charge an arm and a leg for them to be fix it when they didn't build it right in the first place.
Anyways, I just had to vent as I was excited to install the latest firmware on my axe and try some new presets :/

Just wondering, did you plug it in and unplug it while it was on, and your computer was on? Because you are supposed to plug it in while both devices are off.

Yeah, I had them both off when I plugged them in :( I think I've tried everything. Thanks for the suggestion though.
uh oh...I was thinking of the Presonus firestudio...but if this is the quality of the things...maybe I will pass...
when you pay what...500$...for something like this...and then it acts like that...
well thats just stupid...paying that kind of money you should be able to drop the thing from 2 storeys and it should still function

Sounds like operator error to me.
Have you contact Presonus?
Their cust service is excellent and if there really is an issue they will help you out.
Never had any issues with Presonus gear.
I've got the Firepod and a Digimax FS. Never had an issue with either of them, and I've used them a ton.
Before that I owned an ACP-8 and an ACP-88.
Both were rock solid and bombproof.
If you *really* want to know if their gear is quality or not check out
http://gearslutz.com/board/.
That's where the pros outnumber the hobbyists and you get a ton of excellent info.
I wouldn't buy the Firestudio. Compare those pre-amps to the Digimax FS ($500) and you'll see why.

Firepod here - no problems with the ports (they are flimsy though), but try to get it to work with a PC laptop and a firewire card....ain't happenin' - spent months and still nothing remotely like it works with a Mac. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. The Presonus boards were screaming about reliability problems with the firestudio and digimax a while back ...so I think the firepod was the best of the bunch. Wish I had fireface 800 but that's a whole 'nother tax bracket.

Heh, thanks for the reply, I frequent gearslutz way too much the way it is :) I've read a lot of comments about shotty firepods and presonus gear after I bought mine though. I'm staying clear of presonus after I get this resolved. Hopefully I will get it resolved. I've barely used the thing. It's pretty much a glorified midi box for me.
I'm glad you've had good luck though.

Update! I called presonus and they were very helpful! I sent it in and within a couple of weeks even with Gustav happening (They're in Baton Rouge) I got the firepod back within a couple of weeks. They fixed both firewire ports and everything is working great, knock on wood :)

It looks like the Digimax doesn't have firewire.
I'm another happy FirePod owner. No problems here either. Glad you got you issues taken care of.

I used my Presonus Firepod for about 3 years with fabulous results and then one day plugged in the firewire cord the wrong way and now.....NO WORKIE!!! I contacted Presonus and it sounds like I need to have them replace that firewire port. Sounds like around $100 which should include shipping.
Hope that helps...

The firewire cable and port are "keyed". How do you plug it in the wrong way? Just wondering.

The firewire plug has a flat side and round side, I guess I pushed a little too hard before I realized I had to flip the plug. I didn't force it in that hard but that's the ONLY thing I can think of. Everything had always worked immediately before then...

Yeah, I didn't press all that hard though and the firewire ports seem kinda flimsy as it is.
