Hi,

I have an old Fender Deluxe Reverb that I changed out the 6V6s for 6L6s many years ago (and rebiased). I definately liked the sound of the amp better with the 6L6s.

This is probably a really dumb question but is this giving me more power from the amp and therefore am I putting the speaker and the output transformer at risk? So far nothing blown but was just wondering. Don't want to blow the old speaker or the transformer. A lot of the time it was used as a head, running into a 2x12 cab, but now it's back in its proper 1x12 home.

thanks a lot

The OT will be fine. The speaker... well that depends on the speaker. ;)

But the 6L6s only add a very slight more amount of power over the 6V6s. I doubt it would put most speakers in jeopardy, provided there was already an adequate 'safety margin.'

You can add the power transformer to your list of things to worry about. 6L6s draw about twice the filament current as 6V6s.. But you say it's been "years", so I guess you're OK on that one.

The bottom line is you're probably fine because back in those days, most things were OVER ENGINEERED to last a lifetime.

An original DR transformer can handle it. :)

You're right about the filament current, though.
