...OK, so I figured I'd take a little break from practicing the electric sitar along with "Catholic Girls" to let you know the Open Fist Theatre in Hollywood (on Santa Monica near El Centro) is putting on a live musical theatre version of Frank Zappa's "Joe's Garage" and I have been asked to be in the pit band as well as help in some of the transcribing.
Opening night is September 26, and shows will continue every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night through the end of November (ticket sales willing....)
This has the full blessing and cooperation of the Zappa Family Trust (in fact, both Gail and Moon showed up to a little party the producers threw last week...).
So come on down, and ummm....maybe leave the impressionable young ones at home...

I was gonna ask just that question, Ken, after the rather snarky comments Dweezil made about "other" Zappa tributes/projects, in GP mag.
Cool gig.........have a blast.

All Joseph's wimmens won't let him leave the area.........they tagged him with one of those doggy electroshock collars, so they'll always be able to gaze on his studly visage.

wow...one of my favorite albums!
Hope you guys do well. If it runs into the fall, there's a chance I'll be out west. I'll be sure to look it up and see if it's still going.

Wow. I REALLY wish I could be there. Any chance of video-recording it, or something of the like? Pictures, audio, anything? I would love, love, love to listen or watch this show.
Can you also post pictures of de chromium cob?

That would be up to the producer/director...I'm just the guitar player ;)
I imagine something like that would be done at some point - whether that becomes available for public comsumption, I don't know - again, not my arena of decision-making....

Highly recommended for those of you in the area. The cast is incredibly talented and the band is doubly so.

Sounds like it's going well. It makes me very happy on a few levels but most of all that folks are keeping the muse alive.
Congrats and thanks

The good news is:
1) We've now been extended through Christmas
2) Gail Zappa and the producer have big plans to put this show on the road in the US and Europe for as much of spring and summer '09 as possible, and some very serious offers are being negotiated to that effect as we speak...

OH yeah, great news! If this goes nationwide, I'll be there especially if it comes to the Kennedy Center.

Bumping this again - the entire weekends have been pre-selling out, so if you wanna come plan early...
Our last show at this theater is now slated for December 21, off Thanksgiving weekend.
(And I won't be making the November 9 show...sorry...)
