I posted something last week about my tweed bandmaster clone having a sudden drop in volume. Some of you suggested the output transformer as the culprit. I had my friend who is a tech look it over and he concluded with a reasonable degree of certainity that its the output transformer that blew. A new one is on the way.

Yesterday, I plugged in a blackface Tremulux into the same outlet at our practice space and the amp wouldn't even turn on, no pilot light, no tubes lighting up. I checked the fuse and it wasn't busted. It worked fine the other day.

Is it possible that 'bad' power in our space could be the culprit for these occurences or is it merely a coincidence. If so, should I look into getting a voltage regulator?

Other users of the spaced have complained of their amps sounding 'weird', i.e. less powerful, or just not right.

Would a less 120 V power supply cause blown transformers and other things to happen to the amps. Or is the more the occurence of spikes and such things?

Stick an AC voltmeter into the socket and see what's coming out. Now plug in your amplifier and test again. Can bad power trash an amplifier? Without question.
