View Full Version : Being blocked from HC while at work?

I know of at least one other person that as of Thursday, can no longer access HC from work. Is anyone else having this issue? If so, can someone notify a mod over there and let them know?

Sure, I should be working at work but I get ideas and like to spread the questions around for a wide range of answers.

Maybe your I.T. dept. doesn't like HC and put a block on it. but they still let you go to TGP.

LOL!

Actually, I asked the same question at rig-talk and there are few people over there having the same problem. So far it looks like it is not geographical or dependant on your system. The problem exists with some IE, Firefox, MAC, and PC users.

Maybe some ISP's tagged them for some reason.

Most people I have talked to can not access HC anymore. In fact, everyone I know who frequents that board can no longer get one from home or work.

Edit: I pinged them and got no response. Looks like they are down

I didn't realize anyone that hangs out at HC actually works. :stir

I can't access HC at all and I'm a regular. I'm glad to hear that it's not just me.

Actually I can pull up everything on HC except the Forums.

I just logged into the forum. Everything seems fine.

They must have DNS propagating (or whatever) issues if some people are getting on and other are not.

I am getting emails about PM's I am getting from HC, so some people are getting on. No one I know in my area is able to though

I just tried again after reading the last two posts here, I still cannot get on. I can get on the site and access everything but the forums. Weird.

I hear it was related to problems with comcast.

I've also seen them block legit domains - essentially errors by
people in their network engineering group from what I understand.

But that's not to say that some of you haven't been blocked from HC
due to excessive use.

I work in I.T. and managers are typically given a list of sites employees
access and it's up to management to determine what is or isn't excessive.

I am still not able to get on. I am kind of the IT department in my world so I know that I am not blocking myself. Not a big deal though.

I can get on from home, but it's miserably slow. Can't get on at all at work. I'm in IT, I know we're not blocking, so it must be HC...

Potty mouth posts and excessive skin/gore in posted images can get a site added to a blacklist, resulting in no access from the office.

On of many reasons to keep our discussion at a PG-13 level.

I can get on hc at work, but not at home and I sure don't have any filters for home.

This is from one of the regulars at the Political Pary at HC...he's a good guy and I don't believe he'd give out any bad advice....

Also, try these DNS servers too. The problem is gone for me:

Navigate to your network connection's properties, go to TCP/IP (and if it has both v6 and v4 then just choose v4) and set your primary DNS server to:

4.2.2.2

and the alternate to:

4.2.2.6

(of course you have to "un-check" the option called something like "Automatic DNS" to key in the manual figures)

These DNS serves seem to have also, as a bonus, increase my surfing speed as compared to automatic DNS servers.

I just got on - no probs at all, everything loaded quickly. I'm at work in Santa Barbara, Verizon ISP.

Works here too in NJ.

Although I don't go on HC at work except to check PMs and maybe look in the FS forums. Too much 'not work friendly' stuff at HC to look at much else.

I have no issues at work. I am having issues at home. Tried a couple of DNS servers with no luck. I am in New york using Time Warner cable.

I can get on at work and with my air card, but not from home. Well, actually I can get the home page to load, but I get error messages when I try to look at the for sale adds or go to the forums.

I've got TWC, live in southern TX and my issues just started yesterday.

This is very annoying.

Tried those DNS settings and it made no difference. I'm curious if HC is aware of all the folks having issues?

1. Use Firefox
2. Install ad block Plus
3. create a filter for metrics.*.* and ds1.harmony*.*
4. surf HC all you want :)
