I'm picking up a nice older Epiphone Sheraton from a fellow "gear pager"--- What pickups would you guys suggest for rock, alt country, blues, etc...

Got mine when they first re-issued the Sheraton with the Korean build in the early 90's. Then the options were not as wide as today for replacement humbuckers - I went with a Gibson 57 classic in the neck and a 57 classic plus (bit hotter wind) for the bridge - they have not moved out of the guitar. It sounds real good to me - articulate for chording & creamy when pushed. You dont specify what music you play or what kind of tone your looking for - I went for a PAF tone, obviously with the Gibsons. - with a PAF tone search you'll find tons of recommendations - you'll also find pickup sets costing almost as much as that guitar. Look on the emporium for a used set - shop your local merchants, use the mfgr.'s web sites - many will have clips, talk to other semi-hollow body players in your town, etc. Good hunting.

Dave Malone of the Radiators had me put TV Jones Classics in his cheapo Sheraton and they sound great. He tours with it and plays it often. TV Jones now makes them so that you can mount them without modifications using their pickup mounting rings.

doublescale1 has the right idea
Those are great, unless you want to be able to split coils.
As far as pickup height, I try to keep the neck pickup close to the bottom of its range and the bridge about halfway between bottom and strings.
My luthier actually micro tweaks these as well as the pole pieces...makes a huge diff in the end and does not cost alot.

Thanks guys. I've got a set of Burstbucker Pros that I may use. I just never could get the bridge pickup to sound as hot as the neck. At least in the Les Paul
funny, i bought one of these back in the early 90's as well. It was my first "nice" guitar. I got a white one and it has yellowed beautifully.
I recently started playing it again- it's a great guitar. is it possible to replace the humbuckers with p-90s?

You could use something like this to replace Humbuckers with P90s .

It has the same formfactor as a 'bucker .. so fits in the same mounting ring ...

Ever tried them in the opposite positions? I've had neck pups that sounded better in the bridge and vice versa...might be worth a try.;)

I used to have a Sheraton II. i put some duncan pearly gates in it "woke up" the guitar to say the least. they brought a punchier quality that the dull stock pickups never had. depends on the music you are playing as to what will sound good. i could cover jazz to rock but they would't delve into the heavier stuff without pedals.

I have two DiMarzio Virtual Vintage in my Epiphone Jorma K Riviera that give it a pretty big sound. I would also seriously consider new pots, jacks and wires on every Epiphone...regardless of what pickups you decide on.

I have a mid-late 90's Sheri II. I found some PRS McCarty Archtop PUs at my local luthiers at a great deal. Sounds incredible.

I like the idea of TV Jones....
Check out Frailin Unbuckers. I put them in my 335 and couldn't be happier.

+1 On the Seth Lovers. I have a set in my Heritage 555 and they sound great and seem to bring out "the wood" in the guitar.

I had Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers in mine. Absolutely fantastic pickups. Totally transformed the guitar.

Classic 57's

Wolfe tone Dr v's
Duncan Antiquities are great pickups and would make a noticeable improvement.
IMHO, if you're interested in the best, get some Lollar Imperials, Jason Lollar winds
