I have a strat build. Hwy 1 neck (pre-2006) One piece ash body, callaham vintage bridge and Fender locking tuners. Whenever I use the whammy, the G goes out of tune.

Advice?

Is it a new build? Has it ever happened before? I could be anything from a bad string to a number of other things. Start with the simplest first...

Make sure strings are stretched out adequately.
Make sure tuners are locking and not slipping.
Make sure everything is tight and nothing is moving around (neck, tuners, bridge saddles, nut, etc).
Make sure the trem is adjusted properly and is not hanging up on anything.
If all of that is good then try another string and see what happens.

I'll check it all out. Thanks!

Put some graphite on the G nut slot, or better yet, all of them. It might be getting hung up in there.

I had an Am Std once that I put locking Sperzels and a Wilkinson roller nut on. Whenever I changed strings the G would go sharp if I used the trrem bar but after a couple days I could dive bomb and it would stay in tune. Yes, I stretched them out, too.

Two words. Nut Sauce. It works great to stop the strings from binding in the nut slot. Graphite works great as well but the name is not as cool.

When you say "won't stay in tune" what do you mean? Does the G go sharp after using the trem?

The change is defintely happening near the neck, not the bridge. I havent paid attention as to which way it goes out of tune.
