Hi new here to the forum. Im looking into getting a Fuchs ODS 100 possibly the combo or the head. Id like to hear from some Fuchs users which way they went. If you own the combo do you wish you went with the 1x12 cab and then add another cab later? Is there any sonic difference between the combo and the head+cab. Thanks

I prefer the sound of a head with cab of choice vs. combo. Less chance of "rattle" and a more "pure" tone to my ears. I only use the Port city cabs, the best IMO....

I went to a jam with a wedding band player; he had a Suhr going thru a Fuchs ODS into a 2x12 cab (the brand escapes me at the moment)... very very smooth and thick EJ type tone. Joy to listen to.
Anyway, i dont think i could ever go back to using combos - i very much prefer the solid tone of head/cab and the portability of it. I'd rather take two trips and not hurt myself as opposed to hefting the entire getup from the truck to the space.
Unless it were NECESSARY that a combo be used (Fender combos, Voxes, strict backlining policies), i would definitely jump at a mini-stack deal. A head and a 1x12 cab is an ideal setup! go for it!

Prefer head/cab set ups. 2x12 always sounds better/fuller to my ears-at any volume. Plus theres more versatility with multiple cabs. Bob

Head and cab is the way to go IMO.A seperate cab has always sounded better to me.
I prefer 112 cabs for these style amps.
Try a 212 and 112 and decide what you prefer.

I'm going to own at least one new amp class A/B awesome amp before 2010, and I'm thinking Fuchs TDS 50... I plan to go w/ a head + 2x12 configuration as well. Anyone has speakers to recommend apart from the cab?

I've had an ODS-30, two ODS-50's, a TDS-50, a Trian 45, a Blackjack 21 and a Lucky 7.
The heck with polite. The next Fuchs amp in my house will be a Viper.

I've heard good things about the Emi Wizard.
Also, Celestion g1265's are proven with D style amps.
To me, the perfect 112 cab for a 100W Fuchs (or a 50 watter, for that matter) will have an EVM12L in it.

jI don't have any real experience w/ these amps but that's what I suspect...

I'm interested in almost their whole line, so you're the one who I'm going to annoy about it: Why did you get rid of these? Not enough grit? Too "polite"? How was the TDS compared to the ODS? How was the Lucky 7?
The one I'm thinking of getting (long-term investement, sometime mid-2009) is the TDS 50 or 100... most likely 50 as I've read these already have a great deal of clean headroom.
I'm a 1x12 combo fan myself. I demo'd both a head + 1x12 cab setup and a 1x12 combo before I purchased my ODS-50. I preferred the combo a bit more personally. YMMV

I had the Train and The Lucky 7 at the same time. The Train won out and I traded the Lucky 7. Both terriffic sounding amps but I loved the edge of control Train. The Train left when my hand tuned ODS-50 arrived. It was optimized for single coil pickups which is not normal for Andy. This amp was total SSS on the clean channel. Even my poor blues skills sounded like SRV. It was a spectacular, complex amp. Lack of money caused its departure and the Blackjack 21 arrived. During all this time I was primarily a bass player so much of the Fuchs goodness was reserved for the livingroom. I'm currently playing guitar and what might loosely be termed a band and the Blackjack has been able to keep up with a loud drummer, a keyboard and another guitar running about 50 watts. It gives up that Trainwreckish sound and harmonics and has been very, very good to me. Combine that with Andy's Clean boost, compressor and Extreme Creme and I'm a happy camper (yes, there are a few other pedals too!).
As far as the TDS, I only had it a short time before my roof was removed my Wilma a few years ago and the TDS paid for repairs.
My ear has changed some snice I started dealing with Andy about eight or nine years ago and, strangely, should I be lucky enough to get another Fuchs, chances are it will be a Viper.
I hope that made sense. I'm heavily medicated today! :D

How many practical speaker options are there for a 100 Watt, 1x12 combo?

Well Eminence makes the Swamp Thang, Red White and Blues, and I'm sure there are others on the Red Coat line that are rated over 100w.

I agree with comments above that a 2x12 sounds bigger, and more full. In an effort to get that, without as much bulk, I had Bob Burt make a 1x10 + 1x12 cab. It's hardly bigger than a 1x12, and sounds it sounds big. Not very heavy. The mix of the two different speakers is cool too. The amp is a Fuchs ODS50SLX. For speakers I've tried (for the 12) a tone tubby alnico, Cel G1265, and Emi RW&B. Actually like the Emi the best of the 3. Haven't had a chance to try a EVM12L. In the 10" speaker, I've tried the tone tubby alnico and the Emi Rajun Cajun (prefer the latter). The two Emis together are great.
