got a quick question regarding power amps. I have a mesa 2:100 power amp, and just purchased a THD hotplate. I am running this into an Orange PPC 412 cab with 1 input at 16 OMS (will be re-wired to have two inputs, running two sets of speakers series, both in parallel for a wet dry combo)...

Right now I am only using 1 side of the power amp going into the hotplate and into the cab. The other side is completely shut off and unused...

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering if any of you knew if it would be safe to bridge my poweramp by runing the output of one side into the input of side 2, then out through the hotplate (forgot to say this is an 8 Ohm hotplate). I only have 4 and 8 ohm outs on my poweramp if that matters...

Any thoughts? Again, this is just out of curiousity because I am sure that is going to be about 4 times the power that I or any human would need, but since I have the hotplate now I was going to screw around and see what types of sounds I could get doing that... Just don't want to fry anything haha...

If I understand you correctly, you want to run from the speaker Out back into the amp IN for the second channel. No, you cannot run a 100 watt amp output into the input of an amp that is looking for a line level signal. That would have to be padded down somehow.

You may be able to run the output of the amp into a Hotplate and take the line out from the Hotplate and run that back into the input of the second channel. Are there separate inputs for each channel? If so, I think you should be able to do that.

Well sort of,

How is this:

Pre-amp out -> Poweramp in (left side) -> Poweramp out (left side) -> Poweramp in (Right side) -> Poweramp out (right side) -> hotplate -> input of cab.

I was thinking about using the line out on the hotplate as well...

So it sounds like this would be a bad idea... I just hate that I am unable to use one side of my poweramp right now. Seems like a waste...

So you have a spare side - that's a plus. Besides, you are likely too loud already:cry:

Just use one side until you rewire the cab. Bob

Well, I suppose you could re-amp your signal by running one channel through an attenuator and then into the next channel. Sensitive things, these, though. I don't know how many dB one would have to attenuate in order to interface the signal to reach input level. Some attenuators does have a signal out though, so that could be a way to go about this.

Think about what you're asking. Let me put it in perspective.

"I have an amp that is so loud that I need to use a Hot Plate. Is it possible that I can add extra power to this amp so that I have to attenuate it further?"

That's like gunning a drag car with the parachute open. Doesn't make much sense, man. :D
