This is for you touring pros out there!
I have come across so many Vox CCAC-30's lately and man do they suck! No clean headroom, no sustain, just harsh and sterile. Nothing like the british made ones!
What amps are easily accessible for your backline needs? I have recently been a fan of the Hot Rod Deville's 4x10 and 2x12's!

We've done a bunch of shows this Summer where the backline was provided. Fender Hot Rod DeVilles were the most popular amps that I've seen and I'm always glad to see them are I know what to expect in terms of tone and they take pedals extremely well.

I could do virtually any gig size with my small rack and a pair of 212 HR DeVilles. Great all-round amps.

I agree, It seems the deluxe twin was the backline amp many places had for years ( I play casinos frequently )....but a few now have devilles....I've used a 2x12 version and the 4x10 version. both sounded very good.

Great backline amps, I agree they take pedal very well and having the effects loop is helpful as well....

I like old Marshall combos for the easiness of travel. I have a 2x12 JCM 800 and other than it being like 100lbs, it barely uses up space in the car. For looks I can't beat playing a stack though. Nothing oozes cool like 8x12.

i like the HR devilles.... but I'm also a big fan of the AC30 reissues. That said they are super easy to dial in wrong. Try plugging into the normal channel with the brilliance switch off. I guarantee nobody will tell you that your tone is thin!

I had a Vox AC15 as a backline amp. Man...the cleans were awesome but with an ocd in front, it sucked. I still haven't found a overdrive/distortion pedal I like and that can go with any amp....

If you do backline type touring,
#1 Get your pedalboard together, don't count on anything from your rider actually materializing. Make sure your stuff can work into most Fender, Marshall, Boogies.
#2 ALWAYS ask, no, INSIST on 2 of whatever amps--- chances are one will be in good shape. Not kidding.

+2 for the Deville 212's. I was pleasantly suprised all summer. As for a do everything OD you can't beat a Analogman KoT :AOK

Just out of curiosity, but what is a backline amp supposed to do on stage.

Most backlines I've run across are either Marshalls, or Fender Twins
