Today I spent some time playing a Lightning 15 and a Phoenix 2x12, man that Phoenix is some amp indeed! Possibly the best tone ive ever heard. I almost didnt play it, as it is expensive here in Oz ( over $9000! ) but I did anyway and was floored by the tone, huge spread, just amazing tones. I thought the Lightning sounded good, and it did, but the Phoenix was something else. I was previously looking at Bad Cat amps, tomorrow i'll go and try them again too, what would be a similar Bad Cat to the Phoenix? Will any Bad Cat do that kind of tone?
Man, that was some tone.

Never played a Badcat, but I have a Phoenix head and it is an amazing sounding amp.

The Bad Cat Wildcat should have similar tones with a bit more beef in the low-midrange and not quite as much swirl.

I had a Phoenix, but I sold it and bought a Cheiftain. The Chieftain works much better for my needs. Do some searched on the board, I written about it before.

The Phoenix is the best Strat sound I have ever heard. Beef, clarity, bite with just the right amount of breakup. I really like blending the channels.

It sure does have an amazing strat tone, i'll go and play the hell out of the Bad Cats today and make a decision, i'd like to go with Bad Cat as they are a lot cheaper here, and the shop that has them are really good to deal with, if anything ever went wrong i would be happy to take it back, but then again, if the Matchless is that good then to hell with them all!

Hi all, I'm a new user from Australia....I've been the proud owner of a Phoenix head for about 2 years now, it's easily the best and most versatile amp I've had the pleasure of playing through.
If anyone wants to hear a Phoenix sounding pretty damn mean, I used mine on all tracks of my bands first album (we play progressive metal :))

Phoenix, is a great amp.
Matchless makes my favorite amps.
Be sure to go to your Local dealer and try them all out.
Need to make sure it's the tone your looking for : )
