I've been looking at getting a Tele-type guitar and have been eyeing the Linhof guitars. I was wondering if any users or people with experience with a Linhof could describe the sound to me, as compared to other Tele guitars you've tried. Thanks.

Same question, particularly in regard to the P92 neck and the reverse angle bridge. Thanks.

I've been playing #28 for several years now and have been very pleased. I have a particularly good old tele and the Linhof tends to win in the studio with producers and engineers. It is a very articulate guitar for single note stuff, but it can also do the rock stuff really well. I'm a big fan of Lindy's pickups and I think that the P92 is fantastic, a really big warm tone.. but not too tubby. I dig the bridge pickup and it sounds different from the standard tele angle... but its hard to say how. The attack on the high strings is a bit less snappy/clacky. It works really well with gain/drive/fuzz pedals.
The build quality is fantastic. The neck is not small, but very comfortable. It feels great and the relicing is very subtle and classy. The only thing that I did to mine was replace the full control plate with a Callaham... but that is just splitting hairs. I have been fortunate enough to play 5 or 6 of the newer ones... serial #'s @ 75-90. I thought that they were even better, it had me thinking that I should get another one.

I think that they are killer guitars and will be playing mine for a long time. I hope that this helps, but it is just my opinion.

I like mine as well. I did switch the control plate to a Callaham 4 way switch which in my opinion has made it even better.

Are they bright guitars? I like the sound of Tele's but sometimes I find them to be a little too piercing. Do the linhof's take away this problem w/ the reverse bridge?

On a side note, I have always found the bridge pu to be thin and too bright on Teles when trying to keep the neck pu articulate. I just got a Fender NAMM '50s Esquire with a Duncan BG 1400 pu, the Billy Gibbons pickup. It still has that cool bite, but much fatter sounding and non-ice pick. I'm sure that pu would warm any Tele up.

I love my Linhof Special! I bought it (#12) new from Killer Vintage. It felt familiar and comfortable from the moment I first removed it from the case. This one proved itself to be a keeper a long while back!

This guitar starts with an authentic, vintage Tele construction. The P92 neck pickup and reverse-angled bridge pickup refine the traditional Tele tone in ways that are deeper and less shrill without losing that familiar vibe. The contoured body and notched bridge plate add a level of comfort that rivals a Strat.

This guitar doesn't strike me as a Super Tele (ala Super Strat) but more so a natural evolution of the '52 Tele. It takes design elements from the Strat, Tele Deluxe, and player's customizations (e.g. Micawber, Gatton's Tele, Beck/Duncan's Esquire). The end result plays, sounds, and looks organic.

I got #006 in trade with one of our TGP folks. I love it. My GVCG is still my number one tele, but I set the Linhof a half-step down and use it alot for Hendrix tunes and some of my deeper rock stuff. It is a very comfortable guitar to play. One of the better guitars currently being made.
