Two Rock Emerald Pro

I posted this in another thread but thought I'd put it here as well;

Here's a quick and dirty clip I just did of my Emerald Pro. I just threw an SM57 and an E609 up against the grill and let 'er rip. No EQ'ing, no effects other then the amp's reverb.

You can hear it would not be a first pick for metal, but is capable of getting fairly heavy;

Cab is a Mojo 4-12 with V30's and G12-65's. Guitar is a Korina Hamer Standard with a Rio BBQ in the bridge and a Seth Lover in the neck.

Actually it was so low you could talk over it. If you listen closely you can hear my pick hitting the strings (acoustically) in the room.

why did you opt to mix the v30s with the gt12-65 speakers, I am curious.

I actually have a G12-65 and Gold mix in a 4-12, which I run together with a pair of 2-12's w/ V-30s, 2 of which are wet only. So a total of 6-12"s dry and 2-12"s wet. Kind of a convoluted mix but when spread out it creates a wall of sound.

The really great thing about the E-Pro (which I didn't do in that clip), is that when you hit the tone stack bypass on the footswitch, you get an ultra thick low mid boost which makes for an incredible SRVish high gain lead tone. A nice and complex chewy grind and howl. It's a little too muddy for chords in that position but is amazing for single note stuff.

In fact the bypass position is reminiscent of the Carol Ann OD2-100 I just sold, but if anything is more complex and with a little more crunchy edge that I dig. Step on the footswitch and your back in rock land.

I always lean towards the darker sound with OD amps, the d style clones always sound so chirpy on the topend, so far the CA and this emmy pro,

No Prob! It was your CA clips that inspired me to try one - they sounded great.

I'd have to give the nod to the CA for clean tones (for what I prefer anyway), and the gain channel might have been a little clearer then the E-Pro, but that also equated to less of the good 'crunch' needed for rock. As you can hear, you can pull off hot-rodded Marshall tones pretty convincingly with the Pro, but step on the bypass and you've got that whole thick low mid thing in spades. The E-Pro remains the amp to beat for me in that regard.

Randy at the very beginning when you have your volumn down that sounds
alot like RF'S tone at the very beginning of the first song on Mystic Mile,
I think its "nothing but the blues", THAT, is killer also,
On the Carol Ann cleans, I like them alot, just for what they are, but they are not what alot of people describe as, Tag was right with that also, They are not
BF per say, they have a nice mid to them,
What guitar and pick up was used? Bigtone
