I'm proud to announce that I am opening a new discussion site and "webzine" (online magazine) called Old School Guitar (OSG). I will be opening it up in a few minutes and you can get there via: www.oldschoolguitar.com (http://www.oldschoolguitar.com)

TGP has become a huge website that has a very general subject matter. Scott and I are each going to do our own separate websites that are more focused in nature. Scott's is for P&W (it's at www.praiseandworshipforum.com ) players while OSG is a website that is focused on blues, jazz, funk and old school rock. It is NOT meant to replace TGP! Scott and I will both remain dedicated to TGP, but have expanded out a bit, with each of us running our own websites on our own. That allows each of us to do things our own way.

OSG is a separate legal entity from TGP. The rules are different and the hope is to establish a smaller and closer-knit community that is more "old school", both in what is discussed and HOW it is discussed. For instance, rather than making politics and religious discussion off-limits, I am choosing to concentrate on old school respect between members. If you need to be sarcastic, argumentative, or are looking to "win" discussions, please stay away from OSG! I'd rather allow more open discussion and I believe that people can be respectful of each other, even when they disagree. I guess that I'd say that membership on the new site requires a greater degree of self-restraint and maturity that comes with a smaller online community.

Give a visit, join if the site feels comfortable to you and, if any of you are so inclined, please feel free to submit articles (Word documents preferred) for the webzine. We'll see how this goes and will figure out if any of the things that have been done on OSG can be reasonably done on TGP! Again, OSG is a separate site and is run by me under Aspen Music, LLC.

Thanks!...........Brian

Hey Brian

I checked it out and it is a great idea. I hope you get a whole library going over there! I loved reading the LP Junior overview. Congragulations and thanks.

Nice idea, but I think one of the smartest decisions you have made here is not allowing religious or political content. It keeps things civil.
I hope you new forum lives up to your wishes though.

I'm not sure why you didn't get the registration confirmation email, but I just manually completed your registration. I know that some of those emails don't get to where they are supposed to go, but most do. Yes, you can talk about bass in the guitar section. Heck some basses have 6 strings!

Sounds interesting - I'm gonna check it out! I thought dinosaurrockguitar would be a good fit for me, but it's a little too metal oriented for my tastes. I mean, they don't even include profiles of Kossoff or Gilmour. C'mon!

Yeah, the question on the registration page asked me how many strings are on a bass, I said "1 to many, why? "

I failed.... lol

Brian, looks great. Looking forward to the old school focus myself. I, too, registered a little bit ago without seeing a confirmation e-mail. Thanks for any help.

Good luck with your new endeavor.

It takes a little while for the email notification to show-up. Give it about 10 or 15 minutes.

Are you fellas gonna sell TGP and go your own way?

Absolutely not! The new sites are meant to be more focused on particular genres and to allow for smaller internet communities. Think of it like a band. Scott and I formed TGP and remain dedicated to it. However, each of us is going to do our own independent projects IN ADDITION to the Gear Page.

Well, I'll just put my wallet back in my pocket then!! :D Really, I was just curious and wouldn't blame either one of you. Ya'll must put lots of hours each week into this place, and I don't know how you do it. I for one really do enjoy TGP, and I wish you the best of luck in the new OSG forum. When is Scott's P&W forum coming online?

Apparently some of the confirmation emails are getting through and some aren't. I just manually completed a bunch of registrations. Until we figure out why some emails aren't being received, I'll periodically manually get folks set up when I check in.

Thank you Brian.

Looking foward to it and think it's a good concept.

Edit- Thanks Brian, I'm good to go!

I received confirmation, but can't seem to log in.

FWIW, Old School describes me to a tee! TGP is great, but an old fart forum, or at least one that relates to old school stuff is quite appealing to me :)

Any chance the forum's scope can be expanded to include old-school country? Pretty rich guitar history there.

Until.....or if........we get the confirmation email thing sorted out I am simply activating accounts manually when I check in on OSG. I have to believe that some service providers are tossing the confirmation emails away as spam because some people are getting the emails. We have the same problem on TGP at times. If you don't get the confirmation email, check back on OSG and chances are that your account has been manually activated.

Brian,

I need to be steered straight on something regarding both TGP and OSG...If we have a sound clip for a song that could be used both for Gear Demo Clips and Member Clips, should we choose one or can we post on both. I'll follow whatever the policy is but I need clarification. Thanks.

Tom...........The concept on both sites would be to choose one or the other. If you truly feel that a clip is both a representation of your personal music AND also demos the gear used, I would say that you should decide which is most important to you and then post it in that area.

Looks like a winner! Will you be accepting any advertising on the new site? I'd be interested.

Brian Scherzer
09-10-2008, 07:31 PM
The answer is yes. I'm not very thrilled with the Google Adsense thing we have and will likely replace it with direct ads that make more sense to the site's concept.
