The anti-diatonic-pentatonic scale....it's a little odd in that the 'tonic' of this scale isn't even within the scale, but it consists of all the notes that are not diatonic to the key (and conveniently ends up being a pentatonic scale). It works like this...the Anti-diatonic of C-Maj is:

C#,D#,F#,G#,A#

which is the same as D# pentatonic minor

I think that the simple Harmonic Minor scale is fairly anti-guitar. I always have a rough time transposing it and it seems like I've been unable to wire the alternate positions over the years. Maybe it's just me.

I like to think of a scale as a collection of notes that CAN be played, not necessarily something that IS actually played.

When I play 'em, people say 'you made a mistake'. I say, 'I am playing jazz'. I think we're both wrong.

Playing licks in 4ths is always a tough one with all of the string skipping.

I'm always embarrassed when I realize I've just played a major scale.

I never play the anti-guitarist scales. They only sound good on piano, flute, accordian (sometimes), they sound great on the trumpet, I mean really great on the trumpet, Chuck Mangione uses them all the time.

I tried to play them on a gig one time and the whole band just stared at me like I had a third eye or something...boy that was embarassing!! Anti-guitarist scales sound beautiful on Bari Sax, no denying that!!

I read John Coltrane didn't believe in them, he said those type of scales would make your brain itch like pinworm...funny thing was Elvin Jones (the drummer) used them on the drums and he said Trane never knew it!! Trane couldn't hear it on the drums...sheesh

Imagine that!!

I'm always embarrassed when I realize I've just played a major scale.Think how the composer of "Joy to the World" (the composer of Christmas carol, not Hoyt Axton) must have felt.

Oh yeah - even his DOG must've shunned him after he wrote that one! ;)

By definition, if a guitarist plays an anti-guitarist scale even if it's on the piano, alto sax, musical saw or kazoo, he/she will die instantly. Pulverized. Pfoof! Gone.

what scales, just learn the notes on the neck and play keys dude. Altered scales just figure out the notes and use them.

Ain't no time to hate.

Tension is cool, though. And delayed gratification with unexpected release.
