I just got one of these and I love it... I was looking for a nice open low gain overdrive with some versatility for a variety of sounds...
The Custom Cool fits the bill nicely - It's basically a Barber LTD with the Dynamics knob and clipping toggle from the Small Fry. It also has a Push-Pull tone pot that give a great mid-boost when in the "up" position.
It has a very open, and transparent quality to the overdrive - it sounds very much like your amp pushed to breakup if setup correctly.
I am very happy with mine - I'm using it with my Deluxe Reverb / Strat / Les Paul R7.

P'raps Mr. B himself might join in..

Sure, I'll join in!
The B-Custom Cool actually has two EQ circuits that are selectable via a push/pull, the don position gives you the "SR EQ", which is pretty flat and the up position give you "snarl EQ" which thickens things and makes them, um... snarly!
The dynamics control also is push/pull between smooth (the traditional "Barber sound") and crunchy (kinda, the un-Barber sound).
Wow... Hi Dave!
I really am enjoying the Cool! I totally forgot to mention the Push-Pull Dynamics knob... I love the crunchy setting.
This is probably the most versatile low gain OD I've used. definitely a keeper.

I ordered and received mine. And I also used in my band's practice. It is a great pedal, exactly what I was looking for. Here is the thread that contains more info about what I was after:

Very clear, non compressed, dynamic...
Great pedal. And it has a lot of volume available. That is very useful and I find it quite strange that this was not pointed out in the info I could get from the internet. Is actually an excellent boost pedal as well.
Am very happy.

Hi guys,
An update: Have been using this pedal for quite a while now. Great pedal. One of the best pedals I have ever purchased.
I am generally using the Snarl EQ + crunchy mode.
Anybody else?

i'll bump this one, i love my old black LTD and am so overwelmed by all of barber's low gainers..in a good way its as if they would all work for me?? been trying to decide what one to get now for months? this could be the one..
anybody else care to expand on the cool?
Also if you dont' mind me asking since i love the old black LTD whats the next in line from barber if i want to get greedy and look for a "better" LTD?:drool

Sorry, don't know them black LTD's. :(
But gotta say that this pedal is very versatile. There are 2 push pull buttons, and a 3 way mini toggle switch. The differences are not huge or anything, but still very well pronounced. I am using with both of the push pulls up (i.e. snarly and crunchy). The thing is that, I was rather looking for a noncompressed open OD with out them TS mids. But I am also very well aware that when these are down, it is an excellent smooth od pedal.
By the way, it has also 4 trim pots: note shape, bass, midrange, and presence.
Lots and lotsa possibilities.
For example recently I've gotten hold of a Fulltone OCD v4. Liked it in HP mod with drive ~11 and tone ~10. Very good sounding pedal. Yet, after some tweaking B-Custom Cool did that tone, and it was livelier. I could have put more bass for example, or more texture (with presence).
I believe that it is simply an excellent pedal.

Edit: The following is the thread displaying what I was looking for. It was right on target:

hmmm... i just got the Cool and the LTD v2. The Cool has less gain than the LTD, and more tone shaping tools. However..... Feeling unimpressed with it when played next to the LTD. Now, I haven't adjusted the trimmers to my amp which was the secret to the Small Fry sounding good to me.
My main disappointment I think is how LOW the gain is. I expected the LTD to be lower gained, but it has double the gain (to my ears) than the Cool. I'm going to tweak it tonight and see what I can get out of it :)

thanks Mr B. I just haven't put the time to adjust it yet. Haven't been let down by any of your pedals yet :)
And thanks for making them affordable! I can get 2 of your pedals for the price of 1 of the competition!
enough gushing.... will hit back once I tweak the Cool.
