Okay I was gonna entitle this "famous guitar you'd most like to steal" but lets face it, none of us is gonna get within 10feet of these guitars unattended. So lets just say we could own em for fantasy's sake. The post about "top 10 guitars you'd like to have in your harem" got me to thinking when a lot of people started listing famous muscian's guitars... Whose would ya knab?
For me....

1. Frank Zappa's Cherry burst Les Paul (used on Shut Up N Play Yer Guitar)
2. Roy Buchannan's "Nancy", 1952 Telecaster, I believe (though it could be a nocaster or some other year, I'm not sure)
3. Alex Lifeson's white 355 (and no, I don't want one of the re-issues)
Here's Nancy (it's a 1953 Telecaster after all):

I've always liked this Hamer V of Rick Nielsens:

I've never seen him play it in person but it's very cool and since he doesn't use it much on stage it's not all beat to hell..

Haha, I was about to post the same thing, especially the Crestwood. Last time Deniz was in town with Radio Birdman my friends all posed with that guitar. They looked like 7 year-olds on Christmas morning.
Other things I'd love to have? Scotty Moore's L5, Grady Martin's Bigsby, Billy Zoom's Gretsch - oh there's so many great ones.

I would mostly want Neil Young's prewar d-28 named Hank because it was originally owned by Hank Williams. Neil also loaned it to Bob Dylan for awhile, so it has quite a history.
But I would settle for ol' black too!

I love baseball, have my whole life. I was forty-something when I finaly made it to Cooperstown to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame. I was kind of underwhelmed because I saw that it was mostly a building filled with balls and bats. I realized then that it wasn't the balls and bats that held the magic, rather the magic was in the game. I treasure the games and plays I have seen and read about and really don't value the hardware that much. I think it is the same with guitars, so I don't want my favorite players' guitars. I want them to keep them and continue to make he tmagic that I treasure. I have enough nice guitars of my own.

Ever heard of just not contributing to a thread if it's not something that enthuses you?
It's just a bit of fun, no one really wants Billy G to stop using Pearly Gates so some dude can jam once a week on a Tuesday with it do they? It's just shits and giggles.

Having said that, if I *really* came into possession of an instrument like Pearly Gates, the Beano burst or the Green/Moore burst, I'd probably do like the rich Stradivarius owners and set up a program where the instruments are loaned to players who I deem worthy.

Although I see where you are coming from, I dont agree. I think guitars do have souls. When you look at certain instruments, there is so much history. I think if I where to have Neil Young's Hank, or Old black, it would transform my playing. To see the deep wear marks, the bare wood of the neck, all chiseled down by my idol, could only inspire me. These guitars made the music that forced us all to become players in the first place, so I think even getting close to them is magical. Like for instance, Jimmy page's vox 12 string that he used on "Living Loving Maid" was (maybe is) at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City. I was able to put my hand around the back of the neck, and it was amazing to think that I was touching jimmy page's guitar. I think the inspiration that would consume every chord while playing one of these guitars would be immeasurable.

To answer your question: YES.
Nostalgia, because as was already mentioned, these are the instruments that made the music that inspired us to listen and play. Great instruments, because they inspired (or at the very least HELPED) the original artists to create music that would inspire the rest of us.

I used to lust over George Harrison's Let it Be Rosewood Tele...but them I heard that it had been mauled by the dufus he gave it to...
So now it would have to be Keef's Micawber.

Eric Clapton's Blackie
If I had to pick one, I'd have to go for Keith Richards' black ES-355. Damn that is one sexy guitar...

I'd like Lennon's Sonic Blue sister to the Rocky Strat. Wonder where that one is (probably in Yoko's basement somewhere) :(
