I've seen some intriguing Bacchus Lp's on Ebay recently. I kind of want to buy but don't know wether I'm getting a fair price on a good instrument. The models are the Bacchus Duke and a Bacchus BLS-59 guitar. both are seling for about 1700 USD. Any thoughts?

Bacchus is no joke, as long as we're not talking the Korean ones.

That's a lot of money...I'd be looking for used Gibson myself :)

If you pay $1500 for a used Gibson Standard, you could probably get that back on resale... $Resale on the Bacchus??? Man I don't know... I think I'd play it safe with a Gibson, too.

For 1700, if you look long enough, you can snag a R7...imho.

thanks guys, I think you talked me down from this one :AOK. I've always liked the the feel and fretwork in particular of MIJ guitars.
Bacchus do make a series of handmade guitars. These are up there with the Navigators. I don`t have the link describing the model #`s anymore. They are awesome guitars for the money. IMHO the Historics don`t come close to Navigators or the top line Bacchus. Yes, I`ve played both side by side. I would investigate the model # and find out exactly what is for sale. Good luck!

The auctions do say they are"hand made"

I got my hand made Bacchus J bass when the dollar was still strong, which made it a killer deal.

But... If "hand made" is such a great thing with a solid-body electric, then why does eveyone want to get a "plek" job?

I've got a pair of recent ebay Bacchus LPs, one new from Hisashi in Japan (goldtop w/ P90s), and one mint from a US seller (black oil finish with zebra HBs). They are both excellent guitars, very solid and beautifully finished. Superb fret jobs. The oil-finished one is incredibly resonant. Neither is what I would call lightweight, but not madly overweight either.
I considered swapping the pickups (for e.g. Lollars, my current favorites), as is traditional, but after a lot of comparing and A/B testing I can't find anything wrong with the stock PUs that justifies spending $300 on new PUs. They sound fine to me.
As for the re-sale value... what...? You're already thinking of the sell value of your latest "honest honey, this is the last guitar I will ever buy, it's just perfect for me" axe? I bought these two as keepers (quit laughing over there) and so far no inclination to move them on. Actually, I might get a nice sunburst model to complete the classic looks.
In reality, probably the re-sale value will be poor, but that is true for a lot of smaller or less well known manufacturers. Personally I find these Bacchus LPs to be much better built than any Gibson I've played (though i haven't got into the higher end LP reissues) and I would thoroughl recommend them to anyone interested..

The hand made will say " made by Osaka" or? on the back plate.
