View Full Version : Getting a Warmoth body, where should we get the neck?

My wife decided to build a telecaster from parts and cover it with leather (instead of starting with a built guitar and covering that like she did with the last guitar). She picked out the body and ordered it from Warmoth. Now she isn't sure where to get the neck. I recommended sticking with Warmoth, as the fit should be perfect. She got a little bit of sticker shock compared to necks from Stew-Mac or All Parts. Any input?

I'd go with Warmoth. Excellent necks and yes, it'll fit perfectly. Prices aren't really too bad if you do your own finishing, which is really easy if all you're spraying is the neck. A vintage-style gloss finish is a little more work, but still not rocket science.

warmoth or usag, with allparts a possibility. you can easily finish a neck with tru oil at home and save $$. necks with rosewood, ebony or pau ferro boards are MUCH easier to finish yourself.

She's thinking about going with rosewood and doing an oil finish on the back of the neck.

Are the Warmoth and USACG necks really that much better than the cheaper alternatives? If so, in what ways? Fit?

I have access to a Plek machine, so the fret dressing will be great.

Thanks,
Bryan

A warmoth neck isn't THAT much more $$ than an allparts... maybe $50? Go with the Warmoth.

with warmoth you can pick:
nut width
radius
back contour
frets
as you like them. very custom
if you just like stock stuff, allparts is fine

Warmoth or USACG
I have used em on about 35 cds, I never plek'd em, or fret leveled too many.
I use high action and get no buzzes, either.
I like the Vintage Modern, Boatneck. the regular warmoth double truss rod necks, suck the tone, and are heavy.

VM are best kinda no caster 10/56 like to me.

I have 5-7 Warmoth necks. I would have sworn they were the best things since sliced bread at one time. At this point I recommend USACG. This is largely because over the years service has become less positive with Warmoth. It has been great quality and great service with USACG just OK service with Warmoth (it seems to me) these days. Which given the price is not acceptable for me.

I've personally had good service experiences with them, including just this week with Bob Randolph.
