We are lucky here in Nashville, our GC is an awesome store, great stock, excellent staff that just totally eat sleep and breath guitars. I was in today to check out a couple vintage pieces in stock as well as check on availability of a couple things I am searching for and lo and behold I saw 2 new Les Pauls-the have a sculpted neck joint, nice fat neck profile, tummy cut and....a FLOYD ROSE! Pretty cool and they both played and felt really nice. I know a few people really will dig these, I am thinking of getting one and mothballing my pointy BC Rich (my only locking vibrato guitar) Anyway, I figured some of you gear daddies would dig some pics so I snapped a few... what do you guys think...will this be a winner for Gibson, or is it a good idea that came along too late-I know this, Alex Lifeson and Neal Schon can get great sounds with their Floyd equipped Lesters..http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t227/bugnduck/axessLPandparkmarshall007.jpg

It's a Gibson Les Paul Custom Lite from the 80's but with a Floyd this time around! I like the idea, but for some reason the one at my GC (Tacoma WA) didn't really sound great to me unplugged, so I didn't bother plugging it in. Also the price tag is in Historic range.
I dig the neck joint and body cut.

Well, I was there and built many of the LPC lites-they are actually very different in construction, don't share anything at all other than the outline of the body. The LP Custom Lites were real cool though, I had a Tobacco burst one with a factory Kahler, it was pretty cool. The price is probably a reflection of the guitar being a CS piece. Still pretty cool and I'm betting a lot of guys who have always wanted these features will want one. I looked at them pretty closely to discern what Gibson had to do to make it work-
The body is thinner than standard but not as thin as the Custom Lite was, the belly cut and heel relief look great, but knowing how the CNCs at Gibby work, as well as what their fixturing is capable of, I know there is a lot of time and handwork in the heel. Also, this guitar requires a dfferent neck set angle, but that's obvious when you look at it. The top is sanded and contoured a little shallower too, it appears, to correctly mount the Floyd, as well. All in all quite a few tweaks away from the Custom Lite which was basically a Les Paul Custom with a half thickness body blank. I'd say that this Axcess model has more in common with a Niel Schon Model. If one comes up used sometime I might spring for one, but honestly, I probably would only use it rarely, so it would be kinda silly-still the 80's metal kid in me is going "AWRIGHT!!"
It's the new Les Paul Axcess.

I've got a Burns of London "Sonic" model from 1962 with the exact same neck joint. This is progress.
Best, Pete.

The Nashville GC is a great store. Makes me wonder what happened to the other guitar centers. I bought a Les Paul there a few months ago.

Wonder if the new Neal Schon LP inspired them on this.....some similar traits.

I've been jonesing for a Floyd-equipped LP since I saw Rush live last year. But IMO, this model is overpriced.

There were factory Les Pauls with Kahler's before (they had the Gibson logo cast into them)
My Buddy had a factory white Custom(?) with a Kahler in the early 80's. He had to sell it after a divorce, and got 3G's for it.

I would like to try that also :), but the neck angle is crutial here. If it is to small , Tom and stopbar bridge wolud have to be replaced with something else...

I would but I'm in New York area and the guitar is in London and I'm not expecting to go back until next year.....it's a red to black 'burst - very small bodied guitar smaller than an SG one of the few Burns with a set neck.
Except for the colour it is pretty much identical to this:

Mine is way, way prettier! Pan down for the neck joint.
Best, Pete.

Hey!! I played both of those guitars on Saturday too!! They are a bit different from the Schon model's with the thinner body and the cutaway almost reminds me of the old Stevens cutaways that Washburn used to do on some models. I like the black metalic finish. Pretty cool. Only issue I had was the position of the neck pickup volume knob. Bit hard to get to behind the Floyd bar.

I played one today and REALLY liked it. I am dead-set on my next guitar having a Sustainer, or else the Axcess would be at the top of my list. Axcess + Sustainer is very close to the Schon Paul, although I will never pay the kind of prices that Gibson wanted for that.
I may have to find a custom builder up to the task of doing a take on the Axcess with a Sustainer

I played one too today and it actually played very good, only thing I did not like very much was the low end, it has a nice tone but not very deep, anyway the guitar played and sounded really good, I was very surprised:AOK

They have a couple of these at my local GC (Mineola, NY). I think they're cool looking (for LP's anyway :D), but I already had Hamer build me my version of that a couple years ago, so I'm all set.
