View Full Version : Any Relic Tele Thinline owners?
I played one at Willie's yesterday and was awestruck with how resonant it was. It also had a 9.5 radius and huge frets so it played like a dream.
Anyone own one? Would love to hear your impressions about it. I've read interviews where David Grissom praised his.

that is cool. I can't help to think how cool it would look as sonic blue or surf green instead of the nocster yellow.
Never played one.. sorry :)
One of the best guitars I own, and probably the one I grab most often on the way out the door. It holds it's own with my '53, and that's saying something.

I wish I owned this one - had to sell it or the wife would have killed me.
2 Lollar Mini Humbuckers, 2 Cocentric pots, Les Paul wiring schematic - Mahogany thinline body, FAT tele neck...mmmm.

I have owned the Thinline Nocaster Closet Classic for a little over a year now, and I am still smiling every time I pick it up.
I do love relics but it's just lovely to produce your own arm wear, first it went white, and now i am almost down to a small stripe of bare wood.. To die for, especially when you have done it yourself from gigging. I guess it's like hair on the chest or growing a good beard. (I am 18)
Anyway, Thinline versus solid body, the reduce in weight is very nice, and it affects the acoustic tone, which is louder and more pronounced, but when plugged in there is no difference to a normal tele, which is great.
I love the neck, it fits you like a glove if you are into bigger necks.
Should probably post some pictures of the armwear, when i get around it.
Edit: I have put glendale compensated saddles in it, and it killed the only downside with the stock guitar. Intonation will never be perfect with the stock vintage saddles.

Are the Thinlines neck heavy?

I'd love to take one for a test drive but I've never seen one at any store around here. Bump for coolness anyway!

Not in the slightest bit neck heavy. In fact I have converted three mahogany thinlines to 12 strings and escaped the neck dive even with the additional tuner mass of the 12 string mod. It could be just my preferences but I think the tone of the mahogany thinline tele is the best rock tone of all. I cant pass up one of these bodies if I run accross them;)

I played one in NYC about a year ago. I grabbed it off the wall purely out of curiosity and found myself playing it for nearly 2 hours! What a great guitar! Light body, comfy neck and screaming pickups. Alas, I haven't found the deal I'd hoped for on a used one, so, as of right now I'm just an admirer of these guitars.

Mine's a monster. I couldn't be happier...unless it was black.
FYI; I've played several masterbuilts, and the necks/frets/feel were all actually very different.

Beautiful guitars man, does the hollow body add any woodiness or airyness to the tone ? Does it make it marginally brighter or warmer ??
Thanks. The hollow body adds both woodiness and airyness to the sound. It warms it up some, rolling off some of the super high end icepick treble, although it can twang like a mf if need be. I can get the middle position to sound like a Gretsch with the right tweaking.
One thing I notice from time to time, especially when we play loud, is that air will actually move in and out of the f-hole on the upper bout, like the guitar is breathing. It's incredibly resonant.
We played a four hour gig on Saturday and I played that thing the whole time, I barely even had to tune it. I love this guitar.
