View Full Version : Fender Jaguar: CIJ 2004 vs MIJ 1994

I have a 2004 CIJ Fender Jaguar...I just found a 1994 MIJ, to my ears it seems to sound better but you can never judge when GAS is on your back! Would it be stupid to make an exchange (at the same price) or I better change the pick ups un my CIJ?

A little update: I just tested the guitars side by side, this are the impressions:

MIJ 1994: Clearer sound, thinner and faster neck (the same is on my MIJ strat and tele). The bridge has been changed with a Gibson one, I don't know if this only improved the tuning or affected the sound too.

CIJ 2004: The guitar sound almost the same but it seems this one has a "blaket on the strings" if you can figure out what I mean. Let's say is less open...The neck is fatter (guess it's a vintage one). It is also heavier than the other.

To my ears the MIJ 1994 sounds better but I don't know if the partes the CIJ is made of are more true to the original vintage Jaguar design and/or of higher quality.
Any suggestion is welcome!

My guess is that the bridge change would make a big difference, so maybe that's why.

BTW, what is the fingerboard radius on these?

I can't say it...But I noticed that the thinner neck was better for my playing...I don't know if I should kkep mine and change the bridge and pick up or make the axchange and be happy woth that without spendig more money...

I replied on the differences in the CIJ/MIJ thread just now. And - it's a guitar, not a DVD player, you should go with whichever one makes you happy. There won't be any difference in the value!
