Due to Gibson's rather inflated prices on Historic Korina Flying Vs, it seems to have spawned a fairly heavy "knock-off" market. I'm talkin' "string-thru" '58/'59s here. As far as I know, there are alot of makers out there... Of course Hamer has the Vector. The 1982-83 Gibson Heritage Vs are not particularly accurate ... some people like 'em... and I have owned one... and it was only "OK"... but now I have a knock-off by someone named Klaus K. I have no background or info on him... but his V is meticulous in quality and accuracy and sounds amazing! I put some early 60s patent # pickups in and it rocks...
Anyone know about this builder or others??? Who's got a great knock-off??? Here's mine. By the way, that logo is not Gibson... no, it isn't http://www.thegearpage.net/board/images/icons/icon10.gif

I'm sorry to piggyback on your thread, but does anyone know of a good luthier making reasonably priced '58 Explorer replicas? You can PM me if you want...

bluehugh2, that is a nice looking "V".

I've played a few Vectors, all nice but one was acceptable for purchase for me if the time was right.

Saul Kolls korina and brazilian V is without question the best V Ive ever played....by far.

How about the Reverend flying V model? Never heard anything but gushing praise for it. Plus, it's korina vs. poplar/basswood (like alot of knockoffs).

My favorite V is this one. BTW I played a 58 V back in the 70's and this guitar sounds better to me, and the build quality destroys it...Sorry

I had a Hiroshi Kid korina V replica that was a great guitar, but they usually are not cheap.

Bell guitars in TX makes some nice 58 V-style guitars

Hey Dr. Git, well some like the fancy Vs and some don't... no need to apologize for the tone of your guitar:) Looks like a McNaught or similar to me(I've had a few).
As I mentioned when I started the thread, my V is immaculate in construction, has a very, very tight long tenon, Brazilian board, and a nice light Korina body that brings the guitar in at 7.5lbs. It rings like a bell! And the early 60s pickups rock! bWhat's not to like???

i have a 58 replica made by someone named Scott Matteson in the 90's. i can't find much info on him either. this guitar has real PAF's in it, is extremely light and resonant and has a large neck carve.

Woof, I've got a sister set of Matteson built Korina V & an Explorer. I'm pretty sure they've got the same SN# as your V there. Don't know much about him either. Got mine off the bay a few years ago.

KBR, holla! I might be able to work something out with you.

Well, I hesitate to call this one a knock-off, since I wouldn't trade it for an original Gibbie:

One of the early knock-offs - my 1977 Ibanez. Not the most accurate, but a joy to play.

Edit: Oops Chucke, didn't see yours, I agree with you!

Mine does have some idiosyncracies:
