View Full Version : Blackheart Killer Ant 1 Watt Demo and Pics

FedEx arrived this morning with my new Blackheart Killer Ant (BH1H). For those of you who haven't heard of this or been waiting for it, its a tiny 1 watt head that runs off 2 12AX7's. Below are some pictures and a link to a quick demo I just recorded (excuse the sloppy playing). This amp is really the perfect amp for the home/bedroom/studio setting, it provides tons of tone and a good bit of drive at a really reasonable volume. Its got tons more drive than the champ 600 I have sitting next to it. Its going to be perfect for mods, which I intend to explore.

I had trouble finding it online, must places have it listed as on order or out of stock, but I picked it up from musiciansbuy.com (they were a breeze, got the amp in one day)

Can't believe I'm the first to respond...

I'm still not sure whether to get this little guy or the 5w Little Giant. Would you say it's possible to gig with the Killer Ant in a bar setting with no drumset, amp mic'ed of course? How much clean headroom does it have?

Man, you can gig ANY amp mic'ed!

I have the 5 watters, sounds pretty damn good I thing, just waiting for that speaker to break in. I think it thinks it is tougher than me! We'll see!!!

Yeah, you gotta play with this badboy cranked!

The Killer ant isn't going to clear a drum kit without mic'ing. Clean headroom is almost non-existent, but thats the point. However, its much cleaner with a strat compared to my hum-bucker equipped PRS Mira. I want to try this amp with a clean boost and see how it does, although a tube screamer with the volume up and gain low does wonders.

Right. I was mainly wondering about clean headroom and how this thing sits in a mix. Also, there's only going to be one (presumably crappy) monitor.
I'm leaning towards the 5watter right now.

I LOVE these amps, i've only had a brief experience with the 1 Watt, but the little 5 Watter is KILLER. It's definitely giggable, and the fact that it has its 5/3 watt switch is great too. I've had my handsome devil (15 watt) on order for 4 months now. Still waiting....
