Here's a clip of a DSL 401 thru a marshall 1960 cab, with 75's. No pedals, playing a gibson V. I only have some crap mics, and a old AKAI recorder from the 90's. But nothing is EQ'ed, or messed with. NO PEDALS!.

I know there is a lot of haters of the 401, but I have a voodoo modded DSL100( that I have about 1600 bucks into) and this 401( that I have 400 bucks into) sounds every bits as good.

Let me know what you think of the tone. My brother the bass player is playing. He picks everything to damn hard.. lol.

The first part this the crunch, around the 0:50 its changed to the red channel...

WTF, never heard anyone flame the DSL401 or anyone who knew what they were talking about, owned one for many years, love what it does, really love the clean channel with gain set to 10, get a great bluesy tone.

sorry did not notice you are a nooooooooooooobbbbbbbbbbbbb!!!

this is TGP not HC we have people who know what they are talking about, alot of amp manufacturers and luthiers and teachers who really know what they are talking about, not a bunch of guys who flame because they have no clue about the gear.

hopefully you will enjoy the site its a great forum, we have rules which I notice HC does not seem to have. But they keep us from hating each other.

I could not get your clip to come up on my computer at work - but I've been a Marshall guy since the days in the mid '70's when I was using MKII Superlead stacks... Well, these days, I use Marshall combo amps. I do have a DSL 401, and have never had a bit of trouble with it - nor with my 10 year old JTM622... The reason I never had any trouble with any Marshall combo amp is that I do exactly what I did to those 100 watt Superleads 30 years ago - I mount a fan in the back which keeps the amp cool. LOW HEAT = LOW MAINTENANCE...

Since when was May 2007 longer than Feb 2007 bro :rotflmao

I ran into that problem many years ago, gassing for a Marshall, my Marshall Studio 15 was to underpowered for gigs, and I still had my 1960 cabinet, still do and I was looking at the Marshalls, every damn marshall amp I tried broke down, or was not playing, there were three GC and Larry Morgan's and none had a working Marshall DSL or head. Played several DSLs head and the 401 and if they worked they usually stopped after a couple minutes, turn them off for a while and they would work for a few minutes, needed a reliable amp so I got the Mesa Mark IV. I remember one weekend I could not find a working Marshall amp, very ********* frustrating.

So waited a few years and started checking out the DSLs again, really loved the DSL401s and having the high power covered with my Mesa picked up the DSL401, never had a lick of trouble in the 5 years I have owned the amp, play it for hours, still on the original tubes, only problem I have is that I play the OD2 to much LOL.

my bad. I thought I was member since 06.

ANYWAYS, I love the tone of these, I think they sound WAY better then my Voodoo modded DSL100, but Ive had nothing but problems with the 2 ive owned. The first one kept blowing power tubes because of the heat, this one I have now has a fan to keep it cool.. but the channel switching is messed up now.

Also, im not a big fan of HC, but I do look at there reviews. and others, and alot of places say these amps have problems. . . Maybe not all of them, but the 2 Ive have sure do. There is reason you can get these for around 400 on E-bay,,,

does not matter who has been on the site longer,

As I said yes I saw that Marshall was having problems with their amps, got me really frustrated, so I got the Mark IV, then a few years latter as those problems seemed to have disappeared bought my DSL401, amps 5 years old or more, never has a problem with the amp.

HC used to be great for tabs, now go to ultimate guitar, and I do love their user reviews, though all reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt, usually its the new owner who loves his new gear, or the guy who has problems and wants everyone that he had a problem, or the guys who are competitors and are trying to steer people away from the competition, see that here as well, one nice thing about this site is the posters need to post their affiliations, so you can see where they are coming from with their comments.

I'm just about convinced that most of those reviews over at HC are written by clowns that never owned the item they're reviewing... Most of 'em just smell like pure bullsh#t...

Here's one. Worst amp I've ever owned. Brittle, thin and too biting for me

I really thought the same thing, until I played it thru a 4x12. and with a TS9, it sounds great......

I'm not even trying to sound like a smart ass here....

but you really got to know how to use it... with the right pedal and cab this amp really does sound as good as my marshall JMP.

My guitar player has had problems with his 401. VERY hot running amp. Which, I do belive is the issue. He's also had trouble with the footswitch, but I don't know if that's an OEM issue or the fact that he steps on it like he's trying to kill the damn thing.
