... after you've played your Princeton Reverb (blackface, silverface, RI face, whatever) for a couple of hours, how hot is its power transformer? For example, is it


merely warm
hot, but you can keep your hand on it for a couple of seconds
really hot, meaning you'd rather not burn yourself again!

I'm asking mostly to gauge my expectations for my late '70s PR.

They use the same power transformer as a champ,so expect it to get hot.If you actually burn yourself on it,that's too hot.Hot to the touch but no burns is normal for hanging tube type amps.
Have you had the amp serviced with new filter caps and general biasing etc?If not,that can lower temperatures in an amp that seems to run too hot.

Actually, the PT on my PR (lots of initials) falls more into the second item I inserted in the list: it gets hot, but I can place my hand on it for several seconds.
