I've noticed these guitars seem to sell for cheaper than standard/classic Les Pauls on Ebay. Is there any particular reason for this?

Thanks!

Are you refering to the Les Paul Classic gold top model? They seam to get about the same price as the other Classic finishes. It goes in waves. Some times you see the burst finishes go for more and sometimes the gold tops command stronger prices. It fluctuates. The gold tops are more limited in numbers I believe.

Assuming you're talking about the Classic model, they're typically heavier and some have two piece backs. The pickups are also different from a Standard but short of that they're nearly identical. If you can find one that's a touch older, say pre-2003 you'll have a better chance of getting one with a one piece back that doesn't weigh a ton.

some of them are infamous for the less desirable greenish inlays on the fingerboard :D

Actually there was a 1960 Goldtop Custom Shop Reissue a few years ago. Is THAT what you're talking about? I think they had chambered bodies too.
