I like the looks of the Sykes model, but obviously curious on the others too.
How do you like them?
I like the older Burny's better

I have it and like it very much. It is very similar sounding as Gibson but for my ears it is less muddy and a bit brighter, it is solid body, an very very resonant - body and neck is from light wood - Primavera (called white mahogany, but botanicly it is not a mahogany).
Mind also that for Sykes specs there is an ebony board, which is not an ebony (as on mine LPC 98) but dyed rosewood.
My only complain is use of poly combined with nitro but... hey for that money?...It's a winner!
As mentioned there are other very good copies like Burny, Greco,Tokai,Orville,Yamaha....(especially from end 70's and 80's) and some of them has same specs as Gibson for less money.

My Edwards LPC Sykes has a ebony board.
It's an '06.
And is not dyed.
You can see some of the blonde steaking that ebony naturally has.

Probably not.
I went to luthiers and they confirmed, my 3 friends have 2LPC 98 and Sykes and fingerboard looks the same to me. Very, very dark, almost black void :), but has some minimal visual small lines.
Ebony on most of economic guitars (let's say max 1500 $) are fake because it is 3 times more expensive than rosewood, it is "eating cutting tools", and it can be very fragile when making fret slots and putting frets,so you have to do part of job manualy or have very good expensive machines.
If your guitar has real ebony,it has to have Gabon or Madagascar ebony.
Edit. For example i know that Orville had only one Les Paul custom model with real ebony and costed 150 $ more because of that

To me to...But an expert eye can nail it...
But I don't care, i'm very happy with my guitar and no other "you know what specs" are not going to make it sound or feel worse when i got it. It's a great guitar for money.
Many people don't know anything about the wood, but they know what sound and feel they want from a guitar, it is enough that you read maggiority of posts about Edwards :)

My Carvins (2 x '89, '94, '05) have ebony boards.
Looks the same as what's on my Edwards.
(Carvin has only offered rosewood boards since the introduction of the CT models a few years ago.)
Added to this, I must admit the grade of ebony doesn't look as nice and as tight as my '89 and '94 Carvins.
I think the Edwards is still ebony.
Just not as high of grade.
Definitely looks nothing like any of my rosewood fretboard equipped guitars.
As far as the lines or pores your mentioning.

I had a LTS130 and an older SD. Both were thinner and brighter than my Tokai LS200. I modded the hell out of the LTS... WCR pickups, new electronics, and Tonepros bridge and tailpiece, but it still retained it's inherent brightness, thinner tone and more subdued output when compared to the Tokai, an old Burny I owned and other Gibsons I've tried. Even my Burny SG was fatter and packed more growl. Not to say it wasn't a fantastic guitar, because it was. Just wasn't fat and loud enough and wasn't what I was looking for in a Les Paul style guitar.

I love my Edwards. The ebony board on it is clearly ebony. It's incredibly smooth and black. Here's mine.

That 335 model will be my next guitar i hope. The neck is fatter than on the Tokai right? (big hands)

I have an Edwards LP and have played an Edwards 335. The 335 was simply great! I have a really good Gibson 335 but I was extremely impressed with the Edwards - the neck was a large round "C" shape - very comfy indeed. It IS bigger than Tokai necks I've played. The tones were amazing. A bit more "semi" sounding than the Gibson, possibly because they use solid wood for the tops and backs.
I am perfectly happy with my Edwards LP. Hey - it cost me $700! It has a (veneer) flame top, a great neck with long tenon, plays better than most Gibsons and sounds fab. It may not compete with a CS '59 LP but did I mention it cost me $700??

I liked mine, it was very light and made well. Great fretwork. In terms of raw materials it didn't hold a candle to any of my Gibsons, and I had to give it away when I sold it. On the whole though I like the Orvilles and Grecos better though. And I never lose money on those.

I didn't check the headstock inlay. My gibson uses plastic fretboard inlays though...

I don't know about Edwards/Tokai as I have yet to see something like that from either of them, but Fujigen makes this model which is along those lines (sans Bigsby though):

Excellent fret work. Between vintage and 6150 frets [perfect]. Hardware is all Gotoh, big block trem. Gosh kids , where should I start ? Mine was an LP. The very hollowed out body ? the poly top ? the fotoflame ? the frets over the binding ? the microscopic tinfoil screws ? the 250K pots ? The next to zero resale value ?

We must have way different models. I have an E-LP=98LTS. My daughter x rayed it at work for me; All solid wood. 1 piece back, 2 piece 3/8 Maple cap. No cheese holes or chambering. Poly sealer nitro over [Standard Gibson and Fender method]. Fotoflame; you got me. Fret work vastly superior to my Gibson. Binding; beautifully done. Tinfoil screws; Gotoh hardware good stuff. 250K pots; I measured mine at 450K. Edwards has a long tenon Gibson not. Resale; I have been offered the total cost incl. shipping and duties twice. I did get beatifully finished bone nut and unlike my Gibson I did not have to get the plastic nut replaced or the frets filed. On both my Gibson LP Standard and my Edwards I did replace the pickups, both were good I just like Wolfetone DR. Vintage Alnico 2 better. On both I put in a RS wiring kit and Hoveland caps. I don`t dislike Gibson I own them and grew up on them. I do like both companies LP`s. However I play my Edwards a lot more [really nice neck carve]. I also like the $ saved for more gear.

Guys, just keep in mind what the price of a new Edwards is, they still are great value for money. Resale price is actually very good, I've seen secondhand guitars being sold for about the same as they're new! They're quite sought after here in Europe.
I have a E-LP-92-SD (Goldtop with humbuckers) myself and I love it. I heard Edwards Les Pauls are based upon '50s Gibsons, maybe that's why they're quite a bit brighter sounding than current Gibsons/Epiphones. I'm not sure whether that's true though. That's the only complaint about my Edwards, it can be too bright, that's why I'm thinking of putting 250k pots in the guitar. For the rest, it looks great, plays fantastic, and sounds really good for the price.
Any other Edwards owner tried 250k or 300k pots in his Les Paul?

It sounds You got a fake Edwards, if there is one...
As go7, I have a LP-98LTS, and I got that one after searching for more than a year after a Gibson LP that would feel and sound good, but I was disappointed in those I've tried...
I got the Edwards unseen, just by reputation, figured I could sell it for the same money, but I got a fantastic guitar instead!
Your description above are so far away from the Edwards I have, are You sure it didn't say Epiphone or something on the headstock?

I've owned a lot of guitars and I was just not all that impressed with my Edwards. And I had to give it away when I sold it. I also bought and sold mine long before most of you even knew what they were. I have learned on these forums though that people defend copies to the death. The less expensive the item the more this is so. Run a post comparing Edwards to Agile... watch what happens.
