I was noodling this morning with the video camera on in case something presentable happened. Listening to it it occured to me this clip does a good job of demonstrating the dynamics of this the Nolatone 22 Tango, so I'm presenting it flubs and all as I didn't want to spend all day trimming out the imperfections in my playing!

The amp settings in this clip are gain and master cranked pretty much to the stops, bass at about noon, and mid and treble at about 1 o'clock.

I'm going straight in. All we have is the guitar, cord, amp, and camera. This is coming from the camera's built in mic.

All volume and texture changes come from the guitar using either volume/tone controls and/or pick attack.

Note also at the very end how the amp responds to tone control even at max gain.

This amp is a blast to play!

Anyhow, enjoy.

Really impressive.

It sounds quite different to most of the 6V6 amps I've played with (my Swart s, 5E3's etc) from the clips...care to elaborate?

There are a couple of fundamental things that give it what it has.

1) Custom Mercury Magnetics Output tranny based on Radio Spares Blues Breaker/JTM-45.

2) Plenty of juice to the plates, and that combined with the way the output tubes interact with the OT let it sing in ways you wouldn't expect, say a Deluxe Reverb to sing (another 6V6 amp that runs high plate voltage).

The amp is very lively and responsive.

Yeah, I get to Montantas. not every week though.

BTW, I'm getting ready to post a condensed version of this clip. I decided there's a bit too much redundant stuff in it!

Yeah it really is sortof wild. Especially since I went fixed bias on that design. It was cathode biased at first, but due to the way I have the voltages going in that amp I had some crossover distortion in the output section that was robbing the amp of some of it's zip, and fixed bias allowed me to properly bias the tubes to get the best performance.

It's real fun to play though for sure.

I'm also offering a 2x12 combo and head/cab. That will be a REAL gas! Or 4x12...2 of em!!! hmmmmmm somebody stop me!! :banana

I have to chime in here...I played throught this amp yesterday and this clip, as good as it is does NOT do the Tango 22 justice at all!!!!

Hey Jade,

Nice tip about the Sony HandyCam. I doubht I'll be able to look too far into that as I recently picked up a Panasonic hard disk camcorder.

BUT, once I do *proper* demos, which none so far have been, I'll be dropping mics in front of the cab and recording via the DAW and then syncing video to audio in Pinnacle.

Anyhow, thanks for the kind words.

Paul

Paul,

That's exactly what I planned to do when we recorded the last batch of video demo's. You can see the mics in place, and there's a KORG D888 off to the side out of the picture. But after listening to the audio that came off the HandyCam disc recorder, I was impressed enough with the audo quality that I didn't even bother with syncing the DAW audio in.

Let me know when you get your clips done, I really dig your amps man!

Likewise! Cool to see someone doing somethign different. LOVE that blue one I saw a photo of!

BTW, your logo badge inspired my new ones. I had the plastic script, but they break too easily, so I'm going with the flat plates. I'll post a pic soon.

Later,

Paul

Cool! Thanks! Can't wait to see the new plates. Are they Etched Zinc?

Cheers,
Jade

No, these are just painted. I need to learn about that stuff. I have friends who own an trophy/awards company and I get them to help me out, but they probably dont' do all the different techniques.
