View Full Version : capacitor voltage values (wv and v)

The filter capacitors in my combo are marked as "450 WV" (sakura). I understand that WV is continuous voltage (as opposed to peak voltage). If I have a replacement cap that is just rated for volts ("450 V" on the can - nichicon), does the voltage rating refer to continuous voltage?

Yes and no, depends how the manufacturer defined it the datasheet. To be on the safe side interpret it as operating DC + peak value of any ripple that is present, especially when using the cap in rectifier ripple filter application.

thanks - i looked at the nichicon data sheet, and it showed a higher ripple than 450v. the caps are in, voltages are good, and it seems to be running fine.
