It's nothing I created. It's the text book way of setting up a cathodyne inverter. I just stuck it in a princeton, and talked about it. You'll find it in a ton of gear that goes from guitar amps to hi end audio. It's older than I am...

I don't know why it's gotten my name stuck to it. I made it clear from day one where it came from, and that amps like some of the ampegs used it before I was even born. I think it's pretty much because of that link on the weber site. 8 yrs or so ago it was big there, and ted put that link up because it was being talked about all the time. For the record I only did it to princetons. You really can't call it the "paulc mod" with any other amp. I'd rather it be known as the "self to fixed biased cathodyne mod" myself

It's just a way of biasing the inverter for max symetrical signal swing. It can be more accurate than the self biased styles fender used since it's much easier to set it up this way.

well regardless of what it's called I really like it in a 5E3 Deluxe or a 5E8-A Twin. It seems to help the amp overdrive in a smoother manner, with less fizz in the tone. Just to make sure I wasn't imagining things, I built my last 5E3with all my usual mods except for the PS. I kept that standard, tried it, then rebuilt it with the fixed PS bias mod or whatever you want to call it. It definitely sounds fuller and smoother with the fixed bias PS.
