A few weeks ago my amp started to make a strange noise which you can hear on the clip "strange noise." It would last for maybe a minute and then go away for a while (a few days). Now I'm getting this sound all the time.

I'm guessing (and hoping) it's only a faulty tube, but perhaps some experts here will be able to diagnose the problem by hearing the noise.

The clip is here: www.soundclick.com/tfunster (http://www.soundclick.com/tfunster) and you only need to hear the first 20 seconds.

Thanks!

I had a blown speaker in a twin that sounded like that.

Do the easy stuff first. If you have a good spare preamp tube (you should, if you own a tube amp!) swap it into each preamp tube slot and test for the noise each time. If it goes away, you found the problem. If you have an extra set of power tubes (see above!), try the same with them. Connect a good speaker or cab to the amp and see if it goes away. Still there? Take it to your local tech. EDIT: If the noise doen't happen until AFTER the amp gets warmed up, it's most likely a tube. Could still be something else, but I had that happen to me once...
