Hi there!

I'm very happy with my '76 Marshall JMP 2203 but it needs new tubes. I've read through tons of threads on various forums and I think I'm going for SED Winged C EL34 power tubes. Now I only need three new pre amp tubes.

I'm basically looking for a warm middy sound and I have to say I would prefer a little bit more gain as well... I heard good stories about Tung-Sol and JJ.

What do you guys suggest? I'm looking forward to your thoughts http://www.marshallampforum.com/forum/images/smiles/thumbup_smiley.gif

Cheers,
Emiel

I have the Winged C EL34's and Tung Sols in my JCM 800 combo and it sounds fantastic. :)

Hi,

Do you have any particular Tung Sol 12ax7 in the preamp? Balanced, V1 or regular ones?

Thanks :).

In that amp I would spend the money on some NOS or used Mullard b-code ECC83's personally. What's in it currently?

Hi,

I'm not sure what kind of tubes are in it currently as there are no logo's on the tubes... personally I think TAD.

I think I'm going for SED Winged C in the power amp and Tung Sol's in the pre amp. I heard good things about them and can always experiment with different tubes in V1... :)

You may not need to replace the preamp tubes. They tend to last a lot longer than power tubes. See how the amp sounds once you replace the EL34s. I would strongly recommend the Winged C EL34s or JJ KT77s.

If you do want to try different preamp tubes then NOS (as Franie says) can offer a lot of possibilities, esp in V1. I really like Phillips Miniwatts.
