Hi, what PRS guitar with tremolo bar would sound more like Gibson Les Paul Standard?
I love the sound and everything from my LP std, but sometimes I miss the tremolo for a little effect (not dive bombs).

SC245, some come stop and some with tremolo.

PRS McCarty Trem. The McCarty was designed to sound similar to a Les Paul from what I understand.

+1...the double cuts are not LP like at all, IMHO.

It doesn't. At least the McCarty's I played. A nice LP sounds huge and fat. Mine didn't have a trem but I'd imagine that'd be even less like an LP's tone.
That'd be awesome if they could make a McCarty trem sound close to an LP.

Truthfully none of them sound quite like a Les Paul (nothing else dose.)

I didn't think that the SC 245s were available with a trem? I knew that there was a SC Trem with the 25" scale and thinner body.

Why not get a Les Paul with a trem?

I noticed that. But itīs a typical Floyd Rose with micro tunes. Not my cup of tea at all. I really prefer Wilkinson or PRS tremolo styles. In my opinion, Gibson should use something similar to the Floyd Rose installed on Fender Strat Ultra.

Closer would be fine. You know, fat & warm. I already have tha LP and I will not replace it. Itīs my favorite guitar by far. Just want to add another fat guitar to be used on songs that demands a tremolo bar (light use, down only). Donīt need to sound identical, but in the same category.

I would have to say the SC245. Guitar Player magazine recently compared it with a historic Les Paul and the SC245 held up pretty well.
I own a PRS Custom 22 and it sounds nothing like my Les Paul.

Single cut trem will be close as well. The body isn't as thick as the SC245 but I think it gets somewhat close to the LP sound. They have been discontinued to so you will have to find a used one. Mine is an '07.

Hey Joe-- where are you going w/ that Custom 22 in your hand?
So, is the Custom 22 plinkier, brighter, harsher, than the Paul? Responsive/uncompressed or compressed?

Hey, I find the Custom 22 to sound a bit brighter, more hi-fi and modern. I play mostly clean and while I truly enjoy the craftsmanship of my PRS, it is not meant to replace a Les Paul.
I also own a 1993 Les Paul Classic (with the ceramic magnets) and it sounds punchier, with more mid-range. Raw and lo-fi compared with the Custom 22.

The SC245 is a LP killer, but they do not come with a trem. The DGT is the next closest, and after that is the McCarty Trem. I would get the DGT. It and the 245 are probably my favorite PRS guitars right now...but I haven't heard the new MEII yet so...

Right on. To clarify, The SC 245 does not come with a trem, it is the SC 250, with a longer 25" scale that offers the trem. Different model. The 245 is indeed a LP killer, but alas, no trem option. Good luck in your hunt!

The 245 and 250 do not come with trems. The Tremonti does.
From PRS:
The new SC 250 is a revamping of our 25" scale Singlecut with a hotter treble pickup and an adjustable stoptail bridge that makes this guitar just right for the heavier gauge strings and down-tuning used in a lot of modern rock.

In stock spec the DGT will get you close. With a change of pups to some good PAF clones (Ants, WCR etc), the revised Tremonti will get you closest.

So, is the Custom 22 plinkier, brighter, harsher, than the Paul? Responsive/uncompressed or compressed? The Custom 22 is closer in tone to a superstrat than to a Les Paul. Les Pauls have huge bottom end tone, and the scale length difference really seems to set the Les Paul and C22 apart.
