just thought i'd see who the bogner guys are in this fine forum.
i have the first ecstasy 100A and a metropolis 15-watt reverb 112 combo, as well as a straight 412 and two 112 cubes (all with V30's).
of course, there are so many incredible amps being made today. my head just spins reading about the latest stuff that keeps coming out.
thanks in advance...

I have had some type of Bogner for the last 10 years. I had one of the first 100b(s), various shivas, etc. and I presently have an older 2x12 30watt Metropolis. My tastes have changed over the years, but Bogner still delivers.

very cool, mike. i had two 101B's in the past and lucked out with this 100A. it's a great amp, but all of them have been incredible in their own way.
i haven't had a shiva yet, but i always dug it for its round, warm, darker tone.
the metropolis is a killer AC30-ish kinda amp. i think it would be the ultimate funk amp with a strat.

cool! i heard the ecstasy classic and dug that one, as well. if my 100A were ever stolen, i'd see if reinhold could build me an ecstasy classic with a 6L6 power section.

Hi John,
(John's 100A is very cool.) I used to own it. Was originally purchased by Cliff Cultreri at the '93 NAMM show I believe. Great amp and one that I regret selling to this day.
I currently have two bogs- Classic and Shiva, need Uber.
I love Bogners and think that Reinhold is a genius builder. I love the amps myself.

that's cool. i know you had that anderson forever. i think anderson makes a great guitar, and they are still number one in my book, but jim tyler makes a killer instrument, and it's very different from what tom does. it's equally as cool, in a different way.

I had my Shiva combo (EL-34 w/reverb) for over two years. I decided it was just too heavy, so I traded it to a buddy. I missed it so much that I bought a Shiva head and a pair of Cubes within a WEEK !!!
Then, a Forum member was selling a Bogner 4x10 cab (didn't even know they made one), so I bought it.
I learned my lesson, and I don't think I'll let this one go any time soon ......

I have a bogner XTC 101b head and love it.
I had a problem with the relays poping when I used the foot controller but Bogner told me how to fix the problem I had my tech Todd Sharp do it. Bogner told us to put a 2.2 megaohm resistor on Clean boost relay and todd put (4) 10uf/35v Radial caps on certian Relays. No more poping silent switching didn't hurt the tone at all. I also ask Bogner if this would Void the lifetime warranty they said no.
I love this head just killer tones and has it's own voice.
I can get Holdsworth, Clapton, Dan Huff, Jay Gradon, Hendrix, Jeff beck, Mark Knopfler and get Robben ford thing and carlton thing not exact you know the XTC is more Marshall thing.
I have a Bradshaw rack and was looking for a head that had the horse power for it I tried alot of heads but for my style and tones I need the Bogner XTC fit the bill. And is the loudest amp I have ever owned which is a good thing I love a amp with lost of head room. :dude
If you live in nashville,TN or are in town needing your amp repaired Todd Sharp is killer!

I've been extremely pleased with my EL34 w/ reverb Shiva. Though I may eventually switch to the non verb head. It really shined in the studio too! Gets great tone thru both channels and with my recent Anderson Cobra purchase I have been putting her thru some long noodling sessions! I'll have to look into the Bogner cabs. I am currently playing thru a THD 2X12 and a Marshall 4x12 with 75s. If anyone in the DC area is selling their Bogner cab give me a hollar!

Oh yeah,
Bogner Slant 4x12 with V30' is what I have right now.
I really like the XTC and Shiva heads and eventually will end up there. Since in my mind those are the creme de le creme I'm going through other stuff like Mesa, VHT, Soldano but I have the feeling I'm gonna end up with a 101b. I have a problem in that even if I only like one trait of gear, I keep it. I don't move stuff around like some folks, I get it and if I like it I keep it. Also even though I can afford what I want I still have to justify it as I'm not a giging musician anymore. I also always think to myself "what else could I get for the price of the Shiva head" My last thing was a VHT 50CL head and a Bogner 4x12 so a 1/2 stack vs a head and the 1/2 stack won :D But the voice in the back of my head is now telling me that since I have a Bogner cab, may as well get a matching head for it :D :D

is this too much to ask, i bought it for way more and the amp is practically brand new because it stays indoors and covered most of the time (only uncovered when played), plus i just retubed it with (4)GT EL34-R2 (power tubes), and (6)GT 12AX7M (preamp tubes), these are the new mullard reissues from Groove tube, really sweet sounding tube. All this and the amp and cab is in excellent condition, ie, no tears, rips, dents, stains what so ever on the head or cab. pics posted at bottome of post
any takers can either post a reply here or drop me a line at:

sorry tried to post pics but i don't know how if someone can help i can post the pics

Shiva head with a 2-12 open back. Love it. I'm actually thinking about getting a Uberkab for it. I tried it on one and it really made it growl. The clean wasn't the same as the open back, but still pretty cool in its own way. Awesome bass response. I want to get a Barber Tone Press for it also. Anybody else try a Tone press on their Shiva?

Ecstasy Classic Head and Bogner 4X12 cab loaded with Greenbacks. Have a Duende on reserve as soon as they ship in March. Been playing since I was 8 years old in 1969. Been playing pro since 1978.
And my Bogner Ecstasy has opened a whole new world of tone for me.
Well,
The Metropolis is gone (up to Canada), and now I have a Shiva EL34 head w/verb, with 212 cab coming soon from a NYC GP brother.
Practiced yesterday with the rock band...PRS Cu24 20th annie, the usual Boss ME50, and used a Tone King 212 open back cab. The results...spectacular!
Confirmed Bogner freak here...oh, the Metro was/is a killer amp, just too big and heavy.

Big Bogner fan here as well. I've owned and sold a 101b, a XTC classic and all I have right now to keep me in the Bogner club is a OS 2x12. I love the XTC classic for what it does but I just need something different and heavier sounding for right now. I do miss my XTC classic and I WILL own another one day!
On the radar for me is a Bogner 4x12 and an Uberschall. Wife is trying to jam my radar signal though....

I got my first Bogner in '98. It was a 6l6 Shiva and it was one of the best amps I ever owned. I had Bogner Mod a 74 100W Marshall with the Blue channel. That was cool but jet engine loud.
Had a couple of Shivas since then, an XTC Classic, 2 different 4x12's and a 2x12.
The guys at Bogner are all first class dudes. I'm getting some serious vibes on that Duende. God help me if I play one.

Bogner lover. Currently own an Uberschall blue revision that is a great amp. Have owned the 100s, 101s, Classics, Shivas and have never played a Bogner I did not like. Some guys definitely don't like them but I am a fan of Reinhold's voicing. Great stuff in my opinion.

Steve, you like the Uber blue revision more than the older ones? More articulate? A little Marshallier perhaps?
thanks

Yes on both counts. I also loaded mine with 80s chinese pre's and it sounds awesome. Another cool trick is to put a 5751 in V1.

It's amazing to see this many Bogner fans here. It seems with all the other hot topic amps out there that Bogners would be forgotten, but it seems like Bogner still has a cult following.
I think one of the best purchases I have ever made was a Bogner EL-34 head w/ reverb. I've owned amps that people said were "better" than the Bogner and was completely disappointed (*cough* Bad Cat Hot Cat *cough*). I wish I had played one of these earlier, as it fits the style of music I do perfectly (melodic acoustic/electric rock).
I love my red Shiva EL-34 head, but now I need an OS red 2x12 to match it (the black Shiva 2x12 is cool, but I've already seen in this thread just how badass a red Bogner halfstack can look ;) ).
Bogners have such a unique tone. The cleans are something that take some time getting adjusted to after playing Vox and Fenders, but it is fantastic in its own way. The overdrive is just so huge sounding... it sends chills down my spine every time. It's got that perfect mix of compression, crunch and gain with all the articulation you would expect from a highend amp.

Bogner heaven ...
3 Shiva EL34 Reverbs
2 XTC 101bs
All sold to finance my last car :(
However, I am restocked with a Shiva EL34 non-reverb, and once again the crunch has returned to my neck of the woods. :BEER

had a bogner shiva EL-34 w/ reverb, and a matching 4x12 cab
awesome awesome amp. Just a tad dark on the OD channel, and with my ever-changing taste, I was displeased with only being able to get one tone out of it. But it was a good tone. Maybe someday I'll get another. In the meantime, I'll check out the Metropolis. I miss EL-84s.

Anybody out there done some serious mods to their Shiva's? I live in Minneapolis. Savage Audio is here, which, you might know, makes some pretty serious stuff themselves. I had talked to them about maybe doing a mod to increase the gain, and the boost volume. They said that could probably be done. I'm going to try a Barber Tone Press first. All I want is a little more of a lead thing happening with it. More sustain and fluidness if you will. I don't think I absolutely have to get more gain to make this happen. We'll see. Any input would be great.

Bogner does a boost mod. Dunno if it'll get you what you want in a lead tone. You should call them. They are great, great people to talk to.
I used to think the Shiva was a pretty dark amp. Now I think differently. i guess the character of it still leans a little darker, but that presence knob does more than any presence knob I've ever used. I get quite a bright tone out of it w/ my SG, but I guess "bright" is very subjective.

I have the boost mod ... I need to be able to control my lead volume .. I play in bands that don't mic the guitars ... so it was something I had to have. The volume knob of the boost is related to the master volume, in that it will go up and down with that setting too. But you can get screaming loud lead sounds and it makes the amp function like it has 3 channels.
I don't know how lead players could do without this ... I play on the gain channel a lot, and there is no way you can jump that much in volume for a killer lead by just turning your volume knob. Pedals just add gain, not much volume. The boost mod is volume increase, not gain increase... you still get more gain like the normal boost would add, but the mod is for controling the volume of that boost.
Highly, highly recommended ...

I've heard of the volume knob boost Bogner does. The Barber Tone Press is supposed give you volume and sustain. I should be getting it today as they just came in. I will let you know how it works. I may consider that mod if the Barber doesn't quite do it for me. Thanx!

I had a Bogner 101b on loan for a couple months that had a Classic mod done to it to make it a Ecstacy Classic. I used my TC Electronic G Force through it and dialed in the G Force through the SWeries loop. I used 2x12 1980s Marshall combo 12" speakers which were G12T75s. Wired at 8 ohms which in turn gave the amp some of that damping factpor wehich in turn gave the amp a looser and more resonant tone. That and the fact I was using G12T75s I got the amp to sound almost excatly like my 1981 Marshall JCM800/Klon/Ubercab setup. It was a bit more chewy and more consistent. Marshal lstil lhas something I cant explain. Something very special that I have alwayus loved.
I was close to buying the Ecstacy classic off of my Friend and then I heard the new Hand Wired Plexi by Marshall which is based off of a speciafic 1969 circuit .OH MY GO~!!!!It blew my wd. I bought it YESTERDAY and its on its way. I am going to run it with either the Matching hand wired cab with G12H30s which got very rave reviews on Legendarytones.com and HC as well as the Marshall Hand Wired plexi which got all 10s across the board many times over. I used a Vlavedriver and jumped the channels on a buddies of mine and it was THEE most amazing tone I have ever heard. It will go well with my 1981 Marshall JCM800/Klon/Ubercab and TC G Force which I run into the JCM800s tube buffered fx loop.
My next amp will probably be the Ecstacy however anyway and ill have the three.

101B metal grill, Uber and 2 Bogner 4x12's.:BEER
Just been playing my 101B this afternoon on the Red Channel. Just with the guitars volume control it's amazing the range of tones and dynamics that can be had. With the volume rolled down there is a fantastic, dynamic and gritty mild overdrive with great feel and expressiveness, roll the volume up and the amp really sings with loads of fat harmonics and the perfect amount of sag - perfect for saturated high gain lead. Pinch harmonics are a breeze too.
I think I had owned a Herbert longer than anyone else (2 1/2 years+), and the longer I have the 101B the more pleased I am that I sold it for the Bogner.

I'm very lateto the party. I just got a Metropolis 15. I stumbled upon it in Florida in a store where it had been for a long time. It has some minor issues, but I think they can be resolved. It's moving into #1 position in the amp harem.
How is Bogner's service work? He seems to get a lot of love around here.

I sold my 6L6 NK Shiva 1x12 combo to pick up a Duende combo (living in a townhouse now).
I just scored a new job, so I'm going to call around and place a special order on a new 6L6 1x12! :D

Can the Bogner XTC get brighter tones by cranking the presence and flipping a bright switch, or is pretty much voiced around darker tones?

My 101B can get pretty bright with the right speakers. I have a 2x12 with a V30/G12H30 combo and with it I have to turn down my treble and presence to keep it from getting too bright..... so yeah.

Kool. I was thinking about getting an XTC 101B and have the same speaker combo you mentioned in an Avatar Premier Vintage 212, except they are Hellatones. I am currently playing a Soldano SLO and would like to add another amp. Most of the recordings I've heard of the XTC sound kinda dark, but I love the tone. Have you played an SLO? I don't have any Bogner dealers in the area, so I have to go on sound samples and reccomendations.

Be careful if you do with that cab, it might blow that g12h30 if you run it hard. For that reason I have an Avatar Vintage 2x12 with 2 Hellatone 60s coming in this week. THat way I can run full power and not have to worry about blowing speakers!
I have not played a SLO. There are sound clips comparing the XTC, SLO, and Rectumfryer here. They same to be a very accurate representation from those who've played all three.

Yeah, I never run the amp that loud where it could blow the speaker. 2 or 3 is plenty loud for most of my needs. I like the added low mids of the G12h30 (the SLO specializes in high mids). I've heard that clip comparison you were talking about of those 3 amps and guessed right. I really want to like the Bogner, it just always sounds congested and distant...not sure if this is just how it's EQ'ed or what. I do like the rich, liquidy sound and nice harmonic overtones, though.

It's the low-mids on the XTC that really did it for me. Thats the secret to a nice woody organic tone, which was what I was looking for, and it's overall smoothness helps my legato technique out a ton.

My tech found the problem with my Metropolis pretty quickly. A preamp pin wasn't getting tight with the receiving socket. He pinched it tighter and the amp has been working fine since. He also put in some new JJ's in the preamp side.
The amp has got the fat el84 tones I like, enough juice to keep up with the bands I play with and a wide variety of tones to cover all of what I need.
I was late to the Bogner party. Almost had a 6L6 Shiva from here last year, but the deal fell through. I'm glad I found this amp.
