Okay, I play in a cover band doing a wide range of songs. I play a Mesa F-50 head in a 2x12 closed cab and I use the overdrive on the Mesa for harder rock songs. I have been using a Boss Turbo Distortion set low for some of my more classic and 80's rock sounds but I think I could do better. I plan to buy used and don't want to spend too much on this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can't go wrong with a Fulltone OCD, nicely priced too.

+1 on that. I used to have a Mesa F-50 and loved the OCD with it. Great pedal with a ton of low-medium tones available, as well as some higher gain Marshall-type crunch.

+2 on the OCD, fantastic pedal. I don't think it can be beat, but you might want to consider giving a used AC Booster a shot. I really enjoyed that pedal for mid gain tone, but out of the two (or all dirt pedals for that matter), I'd go with the OCD.

Fulldrive 2 for awesome canvas overdrive on which to add mod/delay/ambient whatever effects best middle ground overdrive.

OCD works for medium-higher gain and has more of a classic rock feel to it.

Morale of the story go Fulltone or go home.

I also had an AC Booster with my F-50 but the OCD kicked its butt off the board. YMMV

The "Timmy" is great but I haven't tried one with an F-50.

Yeah, the OCD is a much better pedal IMO than any other dirt boxes I've played, but I figured I'd toss the AC Booster in there as well in case the OCD didn't grab him :dude.

Which version OCD do you have? I've got a V2 and absolutely love it. Sucker is LOUD lol.

I've gotta agree with most of the posters so far. The Fulltone OCD is the best overdrive I've ever played. It sounds like a cranked amp.

KoT v4 is still the best low to mid gain OD i've tried yet.

Mid gain? I'd try a Barber Small Fry

Good call. The OD-3 may be something to look at as well.

i already made a thread about this but the pigtronix polysaturator is a really great little OD box, and its got a very wide range of gain levels, but I am very impressed with the low/mid gain tones.
