Hey Folks,

One of my absolute favorite players of all time is Mark Goldenberg, just a supremely tasteful player and composer..... I've never heard anyone sound like him before, he has such a unique voice and is always soulful and unpredictable. He has great tone, plays beautifully and supports the song or artist, currently on a world tour with Jackson Browne.

I used to go see him play in Los Angeles and now miss his performances a great deal.... Check out his website below and see his "Music" link for a couple of his songs from his solo CD, highly recommended! Also, I found a few Jackson Browne videos featuring Mark as well....

One of the most instructional half hours of guitar listening I've ever done was at NAMM 3 years ago when Greg V, our original poster here, twisted the knobs on the new Bogner Duende as Mark Goldenberg played through it.

With every subtle tone change Greg dialed, Mark immediately shifted what he was playing toward something that more 'showed off' the amp tone that Greg had dialed in.

Mark is the consumate chameleon - there's simply NOWHERE he can't go musically. He's comfortable in any skin, and he can morph his musical personality instantly to whatever the music calls for.

Plus, he's a great cat.

Thanks Greg, Thanks Mark, Dana O.

Mark played at a friend of mine's backyard Luau party accompanied by stand-up acoustic bass a few weeks back. Words like, outstanding, soulful, tone, touch and emotion come to mind. He is an extremely gifted musician. And a very cool guy to have a conversation with over dinner to boot!

I have his solo CD that I really, really enjoy. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy.

Thanks for the music, Mark!

Mark's a fantastic player, and a great guy to boot.

First time I had the pleasure to meet him was my first amp show 3 years ago in Ron Thorn's booth. Wow. Jawdropping to just sit and watch him play a Thorn with a single P90 through Ron's old flame.

Same weekend I met Josh! Another great player.

Fun stuff.

Wow, that is a great tune-I didn't know that!

I didn't have a chance to talk to Mark much about gear nerd stuff after the Jackson show but got this via email today;-

"...Perth was very nice, and the concert was great fun.

I used various guitars, a relic Broadcaster, a Thorn similar to a Les Paul Jr, a real LP Jr set up for slide and a couple of others.

I've been using a Fuchs ODS 50 for most of the tour with my Bogner Duende as backup.

In Perth I used the Duende because a lot of our gear had to go on to Adelaide from the previous show.

Pedals included a Memory Lane delay, Crunch box and Eternity Overdrive. That's what I use and am sticking with it!...

I use the overdrives from the amp, too. I mix things up a bit, some guitars sound better with the amp od, others with pedals"

I played a show with a singer/songwriter here in LA last Spring at a club called Genghis Cohen. The singer/songwriter who was scheduled before us had Mark sitting in on guitar. Holy crap. HUGE sounds out of a Duende 1x10 and a little bitty pedalboard. I called my buddy in Nashville and told him I was gonna hafta go on after Mark. He had to talk me down off the ledge. :) It was all I could do not to hump Mark's leg in the gear storage room as he was loading out. He is such a smooth and lyrical guitar player.

I wish I remember, but I don't even remember what I wore yesterday...
I know there was a Diamond Memory Lane on there.

Mark's one of my favorite guitarists. I love his sense of harmony.

Here's a nice video of him doing some gorgeous stuff on the neck pickup of a tele through a Bogner Alchemist. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXZ8T_IKWU0) I love when people play actual music in their demos rather than just a series of random riffs. I find his amp demo more inspiring than some folks' albums. :phones

Mark is just awesome, and such a great guy too, he's one of the first people I met after graduating GIT that really showed me (through his actions) what it was about to be a professional musician in this town (LA).... to be diverse... he had his hand in writing, producing, touring, everything. And he practiced with such discipline, always wanting to learn and improve, and this was when he was about 40 I think. He's a pretty magical guitar player.

Exactly! He was noodling on a single pup red Thorn guitar into a Reinhardt amplifier. All conversations in the room stopped and all eyes and ears were on Mark. He was sublime.
