Got one of these. Tried it in Garageband and was only getting output audio through one side of the headphones and monitors. Used it in Logic and it played through both sides.

What am I doing wrong in Garageband?

Just a guess but make sure your Input Source setting available in the Track Info pane is set to mono for a mono source.
