~Abstract~

Been looking forward to this little guy for awhile now. I went to GC on Friday and picked one up after playing on it for approx 30mins. In the store, it seemed like the bright switch really didn't do much. The tone was smooth and there seemed to be more than enough gain on tap for 90's heavy metal...(Tool, Ratm, White Zombie)
I like the heavy gain of the Tourmaster...and it seemed like the Rebel had enough. I was playing on the 212 cabinet, but since I have a 212 that's not really being used, I decided against this one.
Since then I've played it thru a 412 with 25w Greenbacks...an openback 212 with V30's...a 412 with G12T-75s...and a closedback 212 with V30 clones.
It has nice crunch tones...ok, GREAT crunch tones...but I can't seem to get the heavy chugga out of it. I've put my OD808 in front, set for everything from clean boost to max gain...the amp just squishes. The closest I've found is maxing a Dynacomp into the front end. Get's a good Tool lead, but the rhythm sound can't be copped.
The bright switch works TOO well with every cab other than the Egnater at the store (that I don't need). It takes the amp from squishy to boxy and harsh.
I just don't think it's for me, but I really wish it was.
Does anyone have any suggestions or settings I could try?
(to add to the mini-review...the amp is noticably louder in the center position between 6V6 and EL84...The wattage knob has static...The Egnater cab sounds CRAZY good with the Rebel)
Thanks
