I went to the Arlington Texas Guitar Show yesterday. It was a lot of the same vendors we have seen there for years, but now it is like getting to see old friends. I did take some photos of some things I found pretty interesting.

Big Tex Guitars was there and I did not take any photos. Sorry! But their guitars looked very cool and the relicing was very well done.

Category 5 was there with a few new models sporting their new name plates and cabs. Don was his usual gracious self.

Here is one of their new Tempest amps.

The ornage tolex model was one of a pair that was made for Ian Palmer, a British artist.

Emile's Fine guitars was there and they had some nice Stevens as usual.

Check out the price on the first black LJ Stevens in this photo! It was used, but looked great.

One more for good measure.

And last but not least - my favorite guitar in the show was in the Rockstar repair booth - I kept trying to talk Doug into selling it to me cheap, but he was holding to his guns. This guitar not only looked great, it played great and had great tone! I was very impressed.

I did not take as many photos this year, but I hope you enjoyed the ones I did take.

Thanks for that! What were the vintage instrument prices like this year?

There were a lot of vintage pieces at the show. There was a Vintage auction on Friday night that was a new event, but I did not attend that. Maybe someone who did can comment on that. The vintage stuff I did see seemed to me to be more in line than the outrageous prices we have seen in the last couple of years. The vintage market seemed to be holding it's value pretty well considering how hard it is in times like these to speculate on the future value of some of these pieces.

Some of the most fun I have ever had at a guitar show. Too bad I was in Dallas a week earlier and could not stay.

So, how was the show in general? Were the dealers buying or selling? Thx, Ed

Both.

Dealers were expecting it to be slow I think, but there is still a strong international and national scope to this particular show. Many private individuals were bringing in their collections to sell off - probably due to the economy.

I saw one guy sell a National from the 30's for $2K. I saw many people with strats, LP's and amps of various kinds walking the floors. I think it was a bit more active than what folks expected.

It was slow to start, but pretty good attendance in the end. Lots of walk-ins but most of them were asking for last year's prices. A LOT of guitars priced very hopefully, not a lot of those moving out. Prices on vintage stuff are really down, anywhere from 20-40%, a good time to buy I guess. Dave's sold a lot of their "thin skin" Fenders (not custom shop prices, but custom shop quality), no one else seemed to having a great show (except for JK Luthier as always). 30% fewer dealers than last year, too.

The auction went poorly, even the good stuff didn't sell.

It was fun but it does seem like a better time to be buying than selling right now...

TOne Disciple,

thx for the pics and kind words. The two red amps went to ian parker in the UK. I also bought a Joe Bonamassa Les Paul at the show and that is a great playing guitar!

Don,

Did you buy the Bonamassa Les Paul from the Charley's Guitar Shop booth? I noticed it was gone on Sunday. Brian made me a killer deal on a Soldano SLO on Saturday.

Thanks,
Cody

Just bought 2 Gibsons off them about a month ago.

Thats why I wasn't at the show. I already filled my order!

Wife made me swear, no more guitars for a year!!!!!! (Bitch!:puh)

I'll probably be heading to Charleys again next year for a visit!

I'm there at least once a week. I realized the other day that I shop there exclusively. Both my amps, my cab, and 6 of my 7 guitars have came from Charley's.

They have some great stuff, and I've never had a bad experience with them.

Brian, Steven and Clay are all great guys. Brian had a pretty tasty looking red TAG Cobra there as well.

Thanks for the pics Tone Disciple.
This was the first year that at the last minute though ready I did not go.
Wanted to sell an R7 but I figured it would be slow anyway and I'd just happen to see something I had to have without making a sale first.

Sad part is I go every year and it's only 45 minutes for me.

I really enjoyed your caption on the "Rose" Trussart. It sure is a honey! I played it for most of the show. That ebony board gives the guitar something I have not heard from my Trussarts.

Would you mind sending me copies of the photos that you took?

Have a great evening!

That Trussart does look nice. I'd buy something like that, for sure. A standout from the crowd.
