So maybe I'm getting old. But I have to say that REO Speedwagon on Soundstage tonight just rocked. Good to see my local boys still rocking out.

Did Gary Richrath ever come back?

No. Although it seems like many that knew REO when Gary was there have a hard time liking the current lineup, I think Dave Amato does a great job. And he's a definite gear hound, at least for guitars.

Dave Amato is from Framingham, MA. He's a very good friend of one of my best friends and I've had the pleasure of talking with him a number of times. Back in the 80's he played with Jimmy Barnes, Cher, Ted Nugent and a bunch of others. As well he did backup vocals on David Lee Roth's Skyscraper and Motley Crue's Girls, Girls, Girls. He's got one hell of a voice too. I've got some old boom box recordings of him playing with my buddy in my neighbor's basement. The best part about Dave is that he's very approachable, humble and funny. He is a total gear hound. Check out his website, you'll see what I mean.

I caught the end of the REO show on Soundstage and I couldn't agree more. I thought the band sounded great and were really entertaining. While Gary Richrath is a big absence, Dave Amato killed and the band sounded as good as they ever had. I, too, must be getting old, but it was cool to see a band put on an old-school rock and roll show. "Roll With The Changes" rocked and Dave pretty much played the leads from the record, which was cool, too. Is that show out on DVD?
