I recently had a guy from churhc tell me to rent "The Orphanage" Its a movie by the same guy that did Pans Labyrinth. Anyway, it was the first movie that has really creeped me out in a long time. I know someone will come on here and tell me I'm a wuss, but something about the imagery used gave me the creeps. Anyone seen this movie? Whats your creepiest movie?
Well it certainly isn't the original "Halloween". That was lame.

It's not scary creepy... just f'ed up kind of creepy. Kind of like watching two clowns in full makeup having sex and one of them turns their head around 180 degrees and stares at the camera while smiling and giving a clown laugh the whole time while circus music plays in the background kind of f'ed up creepy. :bong

I liked Mothman Propehecies. "White Noise" creeped me out a bit until the ending just got ridiculous.
I thought the movie was interesting and a little creepy...........until I got in my car and started to drive home. I had watched it at my girlfriend's house and left the windows down.
No lie - I got about a mile down the road and something hit me in the back of the head (pretty hard). I was thinking what the heck was that??? I pulled over really quick and turned on a light and this HUGE moth was going batshikaka in my suv. It was banging against the ceiling and the back windows back and forth making quite a racket. Once it settled down it must have had a wingspan the size of my palm.
That freaked me out a little.
Most recent movies are just gross (which is quite different from creepy - trying to make me throwup isn't scary). I would say check out 'The Strangers' for a pretty good recent movie that is fairly creepy. Don't forget to turn up the sound and turn off the lights.

The blonde girl who loses her car keys at the beginning of that movie and one of the guys finds them is a friend of ours ... Ingrid Kavelaars ( do a google search , good looker :) ). She also has an identical twin sister Monique who has acted some as well and competed in fencing in the 2004 Olympics . Ingrid dated Brandon Shanahan who was playing for NJ at the time .
Evil Dead is what cured me of watching creepy stuff , now it seems I can watch about anything with it not bothering me much .

Great thread.
My parents really never hid any horror movies from my sis and I. Born in 71' I was able to watch the original Halloween 78' and Friday 13th 80', Salems Lot amongst many others while probably a bit too young for that stuff. Needless to say i've become very numb about horror movies for quite a while. If someone makes one that truelly scares me, I would be fan boy number one. It hasnt happened yet. No matter how gory, scary, strange, creepy or whatever they seem pretty foolish to me now.
Anyways the movie that ive actually enjoyed that I find many dont care for is Blairs Witch Project. While I wasnt creeped out about the movie and I agree all that jittery camera footage bothers the eyes and so on,
I was able to relate to the movie because if you ever truelly have been lost in the woods at night you would have a different understanding of the movie. No monsters, no gore, just plain old creepy lost in the woods feeling. Fun!

Wow! I saw Black Sunday with a friend when I was a kid and it scared the shit out of me!!! Seems like all I remember now is that mask and then someone with a sledge hammer, hammering it onto her face. I must have been about 8 or so. LOL
Around the same time I got creeped out during a Glen Ford movie...I think it was called RAGE.... an older Mexican man had rabies and they were bringing him into the village tied up and all of the village men on horseback with ropes around him....keeping him from biting them. And they were his friends and family. That creeped me out badly.
Several years ago we watched IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS, and although I don't remember it all, I do remember a scene where the woman comes out of a car like a crab, upside down...pretty dang creepy.
My wife said THE RING was creepy to her, I didn't see it.
I can't stand slasher movies or movies that are just gross for it's own sake. Seen enough of that, it's not entertaining to me. The Exorcist was creepy when it came out. PHANTASM was creepy...

Alrgiht I'll throw it out there, Blair Witch Project creeped me out. I was watching it lights off, middle of the night and something about that movie just gave me the freakin' heebie jeebies.
Also, not a movie but I remember as a kid being afraid of the opening title/music/imagery for Tales from the Darkside, the one that ran in the mid '80s.
Honorable mention although I do understand the Japanese counterparts are much much scarier but I'll throw The Grudge and The Ring out there. Just creepy cinematography with the cat girl and the little girl from the well, especially when she came out of the TV at the end.

Alrgiht I'll throw it out there, Blair Witch Project creeped me out. I was watching it lights off, middle of the night and something about that movie just gave me the freakin' heebie jeebies.
Same here!!
Surprised that no one has mentioned "Saw".
The first 2 Alien movies worked well.
There's a film called "Dagon" that is based on an HP Lovecraft story that had a good share of creepy moments as well.

Silence of the Lambs is way up there. But creepy in a good way.
Oh yeah -- big +1 on Eraserhead.
Also The Black Dahlia Murders.
"The Gimp" scene in Pulp Fiction also comes to mind.

I'm warning you, j&m, there are some really scary scenes in that movie. For example, this one:

This one was hard to watch too:

But this one gave me nightmares for weeks:

+1 on Alien and Blue Velvet. The first time I saw Blue Velvet it really creeped me out.
I saw Alien in the theater the first time, the 2nd time it was on network TV and I was home alone, when they landed on the planet, call me a wus, but I said screw it and turned off the TV.
Ok, some have mentioned, like Eraser head, BIG +1! Watched that movie sooo many times back in the day....so great. Also the Grandmother, DL's short, also pretty good....Blue Velvet, another good DL flick....
Surprized no one mentioned "Night of the Living Dead". 1st time seeing it was late night, and all the "news" footage looked like it was real footage from back in those days. Plus the stark, "lo-fi" lighting, yikes.....great stuff. Romero never really topped that one, IMHO.....
C'mon guys, no Taxi Driver?!?!? Another creep fest, sheeez....
And someone mentioned "Carnival of Souls", very "atmospheric" movie, but very cool n creepy in it's own right. Great late night movie!
And there were some great spots in The Sixth Sense, especially that little story in there about the kid that was poisoned by the mother!! Wow!
How about "Henry, portrait of a serial killer"? Not your typical slash em up movie, a real in depth character study on someone like that, jeez-louise.......

Spirited Away. While on mushrooms.
Something about watching that movie tripping freaked me out a little bit. I watched the whole movie on the verge of getting up and walking out of the room. Once the girl and her family "crossed over" everything just looked and felt eerily familiar, almost like visiting a place you had spent a different like in. That movie still freaks me out a little bit. :bong

Yes , it's Italian made by Mario Bava . It's a anthology film , and the stories keep getting better throughout! It's a great film and just wonderful technicolor!

For more recent stuff Blair Witch and certain scenes in Signs were pretty creepy.

The Head That Wouldn't Die

The Head That Wouldn't Die
I was trying to remember this one. Definitely unnerved me as a kid, especially when that thing in the closet rips the doctor's arm off and the head is laughing that evil laugh.
Another one was Nosferatu. Seeing that vamp (probably the ugliest one) combined with the primitive black and white, jerky, poor quality filming just added to my misery as a kid.

That reminds me of an old creepy film. It was called "The Hand" or something and was about this severed hand that was still alive and was crawling around, strangling people and stuff. Super creepy.

There was "The Hand" with Michael Caine ( directed by Oliver Stone!) that had a crawling hand killing people. But there was also " The Crawling Hand" from the late 50's early 60's. Black and White basic horror flick of the era .( pretty fun though )!

The thing that is great/creepy about Signs is the suspense that builds. By the time you actually get to see the alien you are so wound up that the fact it's a pretty bad costume doesn't matter. That scene with the newscast and amatuer footage from the kid's party... :worried
He came close again with The Village but he gave away too much of the story too quickly.

Actually "Silence of the Lambs" was really good as was some other films with Hannibal Lector...."Red Dragon" , the sequel to Silence , and a couple others I can't think of at the moment . Anthony Hopkins does that real well with a flair that really brings the character to life in a real freak you out way .

Personally I think "Fraility" takes the prize.
There was one flick I believe called "Flowers in the Attic" where this woman takes in three children, locks them in an attic and starts lacing sugar cookies with poison.

Wow..Flowers in the Attic. Flash from the past. Old V.C. Andrews book. The movie was decent. I remember my mother reading the book when i was young.
I never liked watching Vanished with Sandra Bullock and Keifer Sutherland. I watch it when its on always hoping for it to end differently.

i've seen some documentaries off the net that i don't even want to mention...
holywood movies some are just gross like saw... but i like brazil, everyone should see brazil, not a "horror" film but anyone that has a 9-5 should find it scary in a world where economics rule politics...

HATE the 'Salem's Lot movie, but I LOVE the book.
Agree that Suspiria, Phantasm, and Alien are phenomenal horror movies. I'd add the Thing remake and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Blair Witch Creeped me out, too.
Dreamcatcher is, perhaps, the dumbest movie I've ever seen. My wife and I find excuses to mock it a few times a year. I'm not saying this to rag on whoever thought it was scary; I'm just surprised by our divergent opinions.
And the book was one of the scariest things I've ever read. 20 years later, it's still one of my favorite books.
