He's a werewolf, guys.
Barks in his sleep, the shot of the painting of the dog and the girl in his office in episode 1 or 2. We saw a near-full moon last episode and someone mentioned in the background that there was a 'full moon tonight' on last night's.
I've been waiting for some full-on Werewolf Sam vs. Vampire action. I guess this is the one storyline they're going to actually make us wait for a little while.
I think he can communicate with dogs most of the time, and then actually shifts under a full moon. I also think the other guys who work at the bar are Werewolves too. They're all kinda 'scruffy' as my fiance would say.
Yup on the werewolf thing I think (although like the vampires on not what we traditionally might think of as vampires, there are likely to be some twists on the werewolf type of thing I would guess). You may recall he was also rolling around smelling the sheets where the body was found. Some sort of weird smelling thing if not a wereworf thing.
Evan.

Forgot about that one. Also, you notice how he's latched onto Tara so quickly? The last episode when they hooked up again he was about to walk on her and she said 'Stay!' almost like a command. They inserted a weird little flash on screen there. I'm curious as to how the Werewolves will differ from legend. Is someone going to develop some kind of fake synthetic 'werewolf food'?

Doh!!!! I am such a putz. I've notice the dog, and the sheets smelling, and that Sookie can't read his thoughts, and that he is not from around there, and no one knows anything about his past and he won't talk about it. So I've known there is a whole different side to him but I never connected it to werewolf. I am a schmutz.

There's gotta be something up though, if even Sookie doesn't know his whole story.
Between this and Tara maybe having a 'demon', I'm starting to wonder if anyone on the friggin show is human at all. Not that a crazy Vampire/Werewolf/Demon/Mindreader war wouldn't be extraordiary television...

He is clearly a wolfman.
Ever notice that he's not in the same shots as the cute dog?
He barks in his sleep?
Sookie can't read his thoughts? (She says it's different than other people.)
He rolled all over the hot chick waitresses bed smelling the sheets after she was killed?
Running through the woods naked?
He's a wolfman alright. He's got all the classic symptoms.

I thought he was the dog, also. That was why the dog was so protective of Sookie. I didn't notice that she walked past the dog to get into his trailer..I must have missed that. He was pretty damn grumpy when she got in there though, about her showing up unexpectedly.

In the first episode, when the mindreader chick was fighting off the goons from draining the vampires blood ... who was the woman standing in the trees? Apparently based on Bill's transformation episode you have to be drained to near death by a vampire and then replenished by that vampire's blood.

I should have been more clear. On their date, he mentions that it is ok to read his mind. She answers that she has tried but he is different Other people she can pick out words and or pictures. With him It was more like waves. I don't remember the specific term. But he is definitely different. I wonder if her ability to read his mind (like in the office when he and tara are yelling at her) was a casualty of the writers strike.
You would think with post production that could have been fixed.

He's not the dog. He was seen in one episode whittling away on some wood talking to the dog wishing that Blade or Buffy would come down and kill the vampires. Then he rubs the dogs ears and plays fetch with him. Sookie can read his thoughts but says they are all cloudy.
I just hope HBO doesn't ruin this show like it did the Sopranos with plot lines that go nowhere. Whatever were the consequences with the Russian Paulie and Christopher thought they had left in the woods.

I hope she stays on for awhile. From the teasers, it looks like she's gonna enlist Stackhouse in obtaining more "V", sort of like those 'drainers' that got wiped out by that 'hurricane' at the beginning of the series.

Weird things I have noticed after rewatching episode 1-4
Episode 1:
During the fight at the end, the chain tightens itself around macs neck.
The dog comes up and licks Sookie and barks at Bill.
Sam runs out right after Sookie but curiously only stands in the parking lot.
Bill asks about the dog and says it is looking over her and she says that the dog just hangs around the bar...even though she must know it is Sams and he lives right next to the bar.
Sookie reads Sams thoughts in his office and he thinks that she smells nice. Also, in the same scene he knew that Mac had a knife even though he wasn't there.
Episode 2:
Dog appears when Sookie is getting beat down. Sam curiously doesn't even though the fight is loud and it is in an empty parking lot in front of his house.
Bill admits some shape shifting vampires exist.
Dog appears when Sookie and Bill go on walk.
In the office Sam asks Sookie if she can hear him and she says she doesn't want to.
Right in the office there is an old painting of a dog standing/sitting over a young blonde haired girl.
Episode 3:
She seems to read Malcolms ( the older gay vamp ) mind. I can't tell because the scene is pretty chaotic.
Sam and Tera hook up and he tells her that she smells good.
Tera hears Sam making dog noises in his sleep.
Dog appears when Sookie is mowing the lawn right after the scene where Sam wakes up.
The dog goes up to Sam on his porch and Sam says "what's up my brother" and then they play fetch.
There is a lot of mention about a starbucks coming to town in this episode.
If you watch the bloodcopy special on this show that was on HBO they make a big deal about hidden messages in ads.
Episode 4:
Sam happens to have the key to Dawns apartment in his pocket when he goes to see Sookie at the murder scene....yes, he was the land lord but that is odd.
Sam stares at picture of him and Dawn before putting the rubber gloves in his pocket and goes to her house to smell the sheets.
Bill Keeps the cops gun after they go to the vampire bar. I bet it makes an appearance later.
Anyone catch the painting behind the bar at the vamp bar? Funny.:D

I've gotta recuse myself from this thread, as my fiance managed to read the first three books in less than a week and I've now heard more about potential storylines then I may have wanted to. Though they are changing a lot of stuff for the show, it seems. Tara, for example, is a much different character in the novels, and doesn't even show up until the second or third.
This is turning into a great show. I loved Jason and the vampire becoming buddies last night. The stuff with Sam was great too. They're really setting a pace as far as big 'reveals' and events. I don't know how many seasons you can keep that up, but it's a hell of a lot of fun.

I thought it was really funny how they just answered all the questions that people have hypothesized about Sam right in a row:
"I'm a shapeshifter"
"I wasn't that dog, I need a dog to imprint from" or whatever he said.
It was like the writers just said "Ok, let's address all the guesses and inconsistencies and then get on with it".
Good stuff.
So now Bill has been forced to turn his first human, Jason has witnessed the murder of a vampire, and both figuratively and literally has vampire blood on his hands and will be the target of retribution, no doubt.
Things are getting interesting!
I guess the chick at the end is another shapeshifter? Possible love interest for Sam? Or was she a werewolf? She was with some animal but I didn't make out what it was.

I'm wondering if it's the same woman who was standing in the woods when Sookie was beating down those drainers in the first or second episode. It's not the same chick that was in those flash-back scenes when Bill was talking about being turned. So that rules that out.

Why can't I see her?

I am not crazy after all. That scene is different in the pilot episode and woman in the bushes was removed from the airing on HBO when the season premiered.

Hmm ... I downloaded the show via bittorrent a while ago since I don't have a DVR. Maybe they've edited up the first episode since it first was shown and the copy I have is older?

Well that explains it. I had heard somewhere that there were changes because the 1st episode was done during the writers' strike. I don't know if that's true or not.

Ahh, so that explains it. I honestly couldnt remember seeing any woman in the bushes either. Looks like they did a little active retooling. I wondered about that, because it made it look like Sookie had some extra kind of superpowers or something. There's actually another scene like that as well, where she appears to have some kind of super-strength, but I can't remember which ep it was in right now.

Well, Rene is the killer. Who woulda thunk it. Sucks there is only one episode left.
Glad Amy got killed though. She was a douchebag. A cute douchebag....but a douchebag.

I'm not so sure..... They made it kinda obvious with the police fax, but never showed the killer's face when he killed Amy. I have to watch it again and listen more closely to the guy in the pie shop and the Bunkie cop....

But in the previews for next week, it looks like Rene is not really a good guy.

Watch her performances. She kinda sucked. Hot? Sho 'nuff! The acting was even worse than the current Tara though.
How can you watch her performances? I thought she was in a pre-release pilot? The current tara has been in the series since ep 1, hasnt she?

I definitely like the current Tara better than the one in the pilot...... Although, she is kinda wussing out a little in the last few episodes!

You can watch them on YouTube. If you click on the you link posted earlier in this thread of the girl in the bushes, you'll see related vids of the pilot.
Oh, duh. Youtube, of course. What was I thinking?

Didn't wade through the whole thread so if it has been said already sorry.
Go buy the BOOKS. Charlene Harris is the author. They differ fairly greatly fro some of the plot lines. the writing is far far far better than the show. I love the show but the books just blow it out of the water.:AOK

I'm from Bunkie, so it's pretty funny to see that. I think the pie shop was alluding to the famous Lea's pie shop outside bunkie.

I can't believe they have an infant/toddler t-shirt that says "Fangbanger". That's pretty messed up. :roll
I doubt that stuff is licensed. People sneak stuff onto cafepress all the time and put it into as many product categories as they can before they get a cease and desist or have CP pull it.
None of that stuff looks terribly accurate to the show.

Certainly looks that way. I thought for sure the Rene thing was a red herring, but then sure enough he was the killer.
I guess they aren't much for misdirection. If they have a dead body sitting in a car with painted toenails, it's likely gonna be the drag queen thats dead when next season starts.
Though I thought that Vampires could feed without killing the host or turning them?

I was surprised they made Rene so obvious from the previews too. Who/what is the lady Tara is staying with and what is her relationship to Sam?

Them making it so obvious made everyone think that much harder as to who else it could be.
I am going to be pissed if they killed off Lafayette. He was a good character.

As far as who is dead at the end may be a surprise. Remember 2 weeks have passed since Bill allegedly feed on Lafayette and the foot emerges from Detective Bellefleur's car. Lafayette would be pretty rank if he had been dead for 2 weeks. I suspect the Senator is involved in the Lafayette disappearance. I want to know what Bill did with Jessica after Eric and Pam dropped her off. This show has legs....summer is too long.

Jessica is doing a great job as an absolutely nutso/crazy vampire. It would scare the crap out of me knowing something like her was prowling around in the night.

The novels have a kinky explanation as to why Lafayette was killed. The fangirls are hoping Allan Ball keeps that plot line intact (for the Eric fans out there).

Sometimes. There are a few good ones in the series.
My favorite book so far is the 2nd one -- Living Dead in Dallas. I think the plotting is very good and would make awesome episodes for TV. I liked certain parts of the other books better, but LDD is just a good read.
