After losing a very old friend (since we were kids) I decided not long ago to try to catch up with people that I miss and who were important to me in the past. I have long wanted to find one particular guy (Joey Flores) that was a really good friend to me for about 3 years, from the time I was 13-16...we got our electric guitars around the same time and we used to just woodshed together on Santana, Trapeze, BB King, etc....switching off playing leads, practicing, practicing. Daily, really progressed so much during that time, both of us. We had a little band that played parties and we were pretty good. Anyway, that was between '73-76, I guess. Then I lost touch with him. Recently I got on Classmates online, found who I thought might be his little brother (it was!) and got in touch with Joey. Turns out he has played many of the clubs and towns I have, we just missed each other down through the years, and he had thought of me often as well. He owned a construction company and was playing in a Motown/jazz band. Married to the same girlfriend he had back in the old days! lol. The other night we got together for the first time in 32 years... and it was just awesome, I can't even describe it. He hadn't changed a bit in any way that matters...and we jammed for hours with a great blues singer friend of his. Got to finally use my GKoelling Telecaster that Greg so graciously gave me, and brothers and sisters it sounded great....and Joey is a mean guitarist as well!
If you have anyone out there like that, go find em!! I told my 37 year old wife (to put it in perspective for her) that she was 5 years old last time Joey and I had seen each other and played music. lol... It was very, very cool, and I'm sure we'll be playing a lot from here on out. Sorry for the long post, but I hope it inspires someone to reconnect with old friends, cause it's a joy. He will probably become a member of TGP, too, I told him about this cool place.
