Example: Keith Richards plays a 52 Reissue Tele relic on stage instead of the real deal. OR Page plays a replica of his 58 or 59 or Custom on stage. Do you feel cheated?

I was torn between "why the hell would you bring a 59" and "this is the most ridiculous poll"...voted ridiculous.

I agree.
The only way they are fake is if they are pulling a Taped Milli Vanilli moment on stage. Heck, in the early days of TV they didn't even plug in their guitars and just pranced around with their signature axes - I consider that even more fake than using a relic'd guitar live!

I've heard that Keith Richards "invented" the relic with Fender. The story I heard is that he was checking out some guitars at the factory and said that the guitars were all "too new" for him.
Or something...:)

I read that too. Makes perfect sense to me. I think I read it in the Fender Frontline magazine a while back.

Keith IS a relic.
He's not even a good one. He looks like one of those that were attacked by a belt sander or dragged behind a car.

IIRC, Keef said the new RIs looked pretty good, but why don't they "bash em up a bit" and they'd look better.

And I'll bet it would sound identical to a non-relic, all things being equal...player, electronics, amp, etc...

Isn't it strange that the whole "relic" thing never made it with the acoustic crowd?
