the opening solo is the coolest thing I've ever heard him play, I just wanna know if any non-Petrucci fans actually think this has any worth?

Not quite soul, more like "souliness."

If your definition of soul is playing kind of clean and not too fast then sure. I don't think it displays anymore soul than his "normal" playing. I like Petrucci btw (although he reminds me a bit too much of a few other prominent players sometimes).

Thats a sweet passage John uses there. I like a lot of his stuff anyways, but just like Yngwie who in the early days had one speed, I like when guys mix up the slow stuff with the fast stuff. Johns a great player. No Doubt :jo

I have always found John's playing emotional, especially for his genre.

Haha love it.

And also sorry about being unclear, I said soul I should have said expression and feeling.

Case in point. Just because guys like him don't play like that all the time doesn't mean they can't.

Thanks for posting that. I don't have much familiarity with his playing and I enjoyed watching it.

Having said that, I didn't find it particularly inspired or soulful. The tone was very synthetic and the licks were the pretty standard "look, I'm being emotional".

No denying, they guy has talent.
