What are careers similar to physical therapy? I'm a freshman in college and looking to get into something like physical therapy. Maybe half analyst half therapist? (Ecookie to whoever gets that reference)
Thanks

Specialize in neuro or vestibular therapy. The "Big and Loud" Parkinson's treatment seems to be really helping a lot of patients.

I work with pt/ot/slp/aud/voice/edema therapists at my job. There are so many options out there if you're interested in Diagnostic Therapy. As I learn more of what's out there my head just starts spinning even faster.

What is diagnostic therapy? What are some other choices in the medical field?

My girlfriend just finished her OT degree and licensure. She loves it, and she's making great money here in Chicago. She works at a large facility here.

What is diagnostic therapy?
Some of our therapists do tests to diagnose what's causing Vertigo or other dizzy problems. Another diagnoses vocal cord issues. We have speech therapists who work with radiologists to locate swallowing problems. Then you have all the orthopedic, pediatric, inpatient, outpatient, accute, trans care, home care, asst living, etc therapists that I don't work with.
It seems that you have a choice of specializing right away or getting into the field in general therapy and then honing your specific skills further down the road.

So a degree in diagnostic therapy would lead me in that path?^

I have a sister who is a physical therapist, and I've alwasy been impressed with her ability to scale up or down in regards to workload. She does deal with quite a few patients who are on the slippery slope to leaving this mortal coil. I think it takes a big heart to take on that type of work.
On the other hand, I just finished up 6 weeks of occupational therapy on my hand (I had a bone chip and torn ligament in my left thumb that required surgery) The OT clinic I went to was a friggen gas. I'm not kidding you, it was not at all unlike a great bar in atmosphere. The therapist was also the business owner and she ran it as a highly social, highly theraputic atmosphere. I had some great conversations with the other patients and the threapists (in addition to a huge improvement in mobility to my left hand). OT is concerned with usage of the hands so as an OT, you might be dealing with a wide cross section of the public, and perhaps a bit more happy endings than in PT. I don't mean to knock PT in any way as it is quite an honorable profession.
